Dalat

HI!! So after our last entry, we had to stay in Mui Ne for the rest of the morning since our bus got cancelled to go to Dalat. So we just chilled by the sea in the hammocks and grabbed some food. I know ...tough life! So the bus finally came and it was tiny. Sean and I took the last two spots in the bus and we thought we were good to go...but no. We stopped several hotels after that to pick up more people, of which a family of 5!! So everybody piled up in the bus. Very legal as per Canada's l...

Days 62-65 Mui Ne and Dalat

Mui Ne is a small town about 4 hours drive north of Saigon, right on the coast. There's not a lot here apart from the beach, but it meant that I had a relaxing couple of days not doing a whole lot. On the bus on the way up here I met a lad that I had talked to briefly on the day trip to Kanchanaburi, and after a day of lying on the beach we decided to hire a motorbike together and head out to the sand dunes for which this area is famous. We left at 4.30am hoping to catch the sunrise over the ...

Love and Craziness

I left Hoi An for Nha Trang on a night sleeper bus, which allowed me to lie back and get some sleep. I slept a lot of the way, waking whenever the bus arrived at a night stop to go to the toilet and eat something. Long distance buses here do not have toilets, so I was careful as to how much I drank. I arrived in Nha Trang 13 hours later at 6am and had nearly an hour to find something to eat and drink before climbing aboard another bus bound for the mountainous town of Dalat. The bus apparentl...

Easy Riding in Dalat

... lovely (and cheap!) accommodation - bliss!

Our next stop was Dalat which is 4 hours North of Mui Ne. We were both really excited about getting here as we had read about a group of motor-cyclists called the Easy Riders and wanted them to take us out on their bikes so the plan was to try and track them down when we arrived there and haggle a tour. As it turns out it was really easy to find these guys, they were literally waiting for us to get off the bus! We thought ...

The Discovery Channel goes to Dalat

... in Paris of cancer, he didn't even bother to attend her funeral. Talk about a royal ass... literally;
- French Quarter, Old Train station, Crazy House (actually really neat, reminiscent of Gruell Park in Barcelona; freaky architecture, built by a VNese architect, the kid of the 3rd President of the socialist republic);
- Elephant Falls, absolutely stunning, we climbed down to the bottom of the falls and got a good shower;
- saw our 4th motorcycle ...

Its Hells Angels Time!!

... the street in Saigon takes a bit of getting used too. Since there are very few junctions with green men lights you basically just step out on to the street and keep walking!! The scooters all avoid you and the worse thing you can do is stop or try and get back and once you get the hang of it its pretty cool really. Saigon is the nicest big city we have been to so far so wasnt it typical that I left the camera in Cambodia!! Simon from the guesthouse is ...

Beaches, Buckets, Winding Roads & Waterfalls

... I was able to figure out that I needed to lean away from the falls more, adding more weight to the support rope and less on my feet. With this knowledge, I made it more than half way down before I fell again - this time, I made it back up easily and was able to take a look down and around. It felt incredible! Once I was six feet above the water, the second instructor indicated that I should jump down and swim to shore. It was literally one of the most invigorating ...

Discovering Dalat

... making the walk through the house much like waiting in a line at Disneyland. The furniture appears frozen in time - curtains, bedspreads and upholstery are ragged and splotchy. I'm not sure how much was due to age verses the apparent neglect by a number of Vietnamese tourists ignoring barricades and signs that clearly state to not sit or touch the artifacts. On several accounts, I witnessed tourists hopping ropes to sit on a bed and pose ...

Mountain Mayhem!

... descents in total getting progressively harder. There were a few easy descents then a slide straight down a waterfall followed by a huge jump off another. The last two were amazing though. One was abseiling down a massive waterfall. I could really feel the water pushing me down and the rope wasn’t long enough so at the end you just fall into the water! The final descent was called the washing machine because you abseil into a ...
