Porto is like Lisbon, only sweeter and fortified!

... are. The distilleries were surprisingly accessible, with all of them offering tours of the caves and tastings, for a fee of course. We were only able to visit a couple (Porto seems to close for 2 hours during lunch) before catching our evening flight out, but we are glad to have tried some new and very interesting kinds of port. Thank you Portugal, we will be back to see more.

Interesting City and Miles of Golden Sands

We drove to Madelana about 8 kilometers from Porto. As we got near Jessica decided that she was no longer going to be our sat nav floozie and left us in the lurch in a narrow cobbled street. A kind passerby volunteered to accompany us out of difficulty but there was no room in the car. Where upon a passing motorist stopped and offered to lead us to the camp site. There followed a journey down twisting cobbled streets some of them two way as he stopped the oncoming ...

RAIN at Parque Nacional da Pendeda Geres

... getting to the place - one woman threatened to throw out her sat nav after taking the wrong turn numerous times. The rain continued and as the camp site only offered sites under oak trees we had a few very noisy nights with water dripping, acorns and oak apples falling on the caravan and a stream running underneath it we decided to move on.

Port-no

... the better part of an hour looking for any restaurant that was opened. Our meals were : a tuna salad (a can of tuna, unrippened tomatoes and lettuce) and pork (a peice of pork, rice and french fries.) Long story short we were more then enthusiastic to get on the road in the morning to leave Porto behind

Porto - home of Port

... for a hostel. It looked more like an Ikea show room with free printing, quality linen, and a little bit too nice for a hostel. Good point to wind down I guess and as a result the only exciting thing I did was visit the Port Cellars which it is obviously famous for.

Unfortunately, I was one night too late for St John The Baptist festival ...

The beekeeper

... was the bartender's fault - if I were a bartender and some guy asked me for coffee during the carnaval party I would undoubtedly hand him a beer. The party was good, but the best about it was surely seeing my hosts and some of their friends dancing dressed as bees, while another one dressed as a beekeeper. :) The next day I spent sleeping and the two others wandering around the city, which is pretty nice. Especially the narrow streets lined with ...

... doing (other than the 2 mentioned in my Lonely Planet) - not really. The things she mentioned... the cathedral (over it) and the train station (huh?) weren't really that great. Actually they were very average. So I went back and enquired about the beach...it's hot. It takes about 45 mins by bus to get the nicest beach but the lady said it's too cold to swim (it's about 24ºC!) It was now about 3pm so I didn't really have time to go and get ...
