Dalat, Vietnam tom-and-carolyn... duh! We've finally decided that we will take the plane to Saigon since the bus ride can take anywhere between 6 and 12 hours depending on the traffic and the construction. These little piglets are NOT sitting in a bus of that long.

So fed with a hearty and delicious breakfast, we go to the Vietnam Airlines ticket counter to splurge a big $82 Cdn for 2 tickets on an Airbus for the 35-minute ride to go to the city of Uncle Ho. To pay for the hotel and ...
Dalat, Vietnam bebabui... br>I'd read about the Easy Riders, a group of bikers who run tours of the surrounding area, and all across the Central Highlands, but of course like everything else in Vietnam - as soon as something gets a good reputation, everyone jumps on the bandwagon, so everyone who rides a bike calls himself an Easy Rider, but a little bit of research told me the where original Easy Riders hang out, so within an hour of arriving in town, I'd got myself a ...
Dalat, Vietnam karenpelham... stop was a house were the family made the traditional reed/grass brooms that are used all over Asia. The men go tothe woods hunting wild pig and deer and bring back the grasses to the women who weave them into the brooms. Some pigs and a vege garden out back and some rice paddies down the road ensure the family are feed and have aan income from using abundant natural resources from the local forest. Super sweet! We stopped at some coffe plantations to be told that ...
Hue, Vietnam claire_noelWe arrived in Nha Trang on Monday, August 17 after a night of constantly interrupted sleep aboard the sleeper bus. Luckily I was the only person on the bus to have an empty seat next to me so I was able to curl up on my side and sleep fairly comfortably. The inability to enjoy a peaceful night of sleep lies in the combined problems with the bus's shoddy suspension and the neglected roads filled with potholes - after period of relative silence and stability, the bus is ...
Da Lat, Lâm Ðồng, Vietnam seasiabound... in the wrong spot (at some hotel where the drivers must get commission), so we had to traipse up the road a couple of kilometers to our correct destination. It was all worth it though, because the hotel we managed to score had a spectacular balcony with sea views and a cool breeze. We didn't do that much in Nha Trang as we had to get out of bed at 5am to get our flight to Danang.
Dalat, Vietnam markandnoma2009... the Crazy House is unfinished as well, as Dalat locals did not take well to the innovative design. What is complete, is a multi-storied building, very organic in nature, with wavy walls, clever peep holes, hidden caves and bridges intersecting each other. Each room of the hotel has a different theme with tacky, sometimes scary animals looming above the beds - an eagle, wings spread, a tiger baring it's teeth, and a kangaroo with glowing red ...
Dalat, Vietnam triss68... endings when the photographer returned to visit the families after the war. There were photos and stories of some Americans who killed themselves in protest against the war.
There's still so much about it I don't understand - it was North v South - North supported by China, South by USA.... but either way (as in Laos and Cambodia) we were left wondering how all these civilians could be killed, only 30 or so years ago.
And then you remember that our ...

Dalat, Vietnam al_fey... have loved it, they have 4 branches along the Vietnamese coast, so if you're ever over here be sure to check them out, they're called "Rainbow Divers".

The cafe had all sorts of home comforts, from toast with marmite (!) to cheese toasties, English tea, bangers & mash, and it all looked great. We got a big plate of fruit and a couple of toasties with some shakes, it was really good.

Sadly we were ...
