'Chill Out' Margarita

... the north-east point whilst Playa Caribe is a fantastic curve of white sand a bit further along.

Juan Griego is a town on the North-west coast which you pass through to get to ‘La Restinga’. This is a 22km sandbar of broken seashells that join the Eastern and Western parts of Margarita. Behind the restinga is a national park of a large wetland area of mango swamps, running down to the beach, where over 100 species of birds live. We took the ...

No hacer hablar a la guerra en Isla de Margarita

... but thanks to Andrea’s “cola” weaving skills and Armando buying our tickets for the bus we even managed to get some arepas to eat before we left. Once we arrived Tita took us to get some empanadas for breakfast, which were very tasty. Then onto her swimming pool for the perfect antidote to our tiring journey.

My time in Margarita is now drawing to a close, it has been a great place to relax before the hard work starts!

Ehhhh Margarita

I am here in Ciudad Bolivar trying to catch up with the blog entry that I have missed over the last few days. This was just a small trip to Isla de Margarita and I never knew that there was such a place, nothing happens and everything is happening. There is so much development here but the transport to the Island is appalling, at least the one we were on ...

Robeeeeerrto!!!! Mais uma tequila!!!!!!!!

Fever, windsurfing, and a trip to the hospital

... flips. And I hurt myself several times by banging my shin against the fin and several times fell almost completely on the mast of the sail. But I had so much fun, and John and I are going to have one last try at it when we get back from Los Roques. We did have the luck to run across a taxi driver who was very friendly and was quite helpful this weekend. He took us to El Yaque twice and then told us that we must venture out to look at a ...

Weekend - Small Villages and Argentinian Film

... more on it later. Back to our road trip in Macanau...after stopping off at the beach in Punta Arena (the most westerly tip of the island), we visited the small fishing village of Los Tunules. It must have been one of the poorest looking villages I have seen yet on the island. 16 family houses built entirely of wood along the coast. Houses were crumbling, the bathrooms were held together by cardboard scraps, you could peak into the tiny cupboard ...

The Islands of the Margaritas?

... back, but she had told me to go to the airport, get my ticket there and pay in Bolivares. Boy, did that pay off, because I got the ticket for the 35 minutes flight to Caracas for only $20 USD, since I had changed into Bolivares on the black market! The Check-in and Security was super fast, got into the plane and off it went. A great flight, besides the fact that my stomach was feeling like ****, probably from something I had eaten the day before.

Margarita Island

... I decided that when I got to Caracas I would just head to the airport and fly to the Island. However, I did learn something valuable on the bus ride. When I crossed the border I found out if you change your money on the black market you get 50% more (3000 to the dollar compared to 2150) than at the official moneychangers or banks. When arriving in Caracas I was halfway out of the terminal and ready to get in a taxi to the ...
