Thessaloniki is right in the heart of ancient Macedonia, the ancient stomping grounds of Alexander the Great and his family, and there are quite a few homages to him throughout the city - including the advertisement for the "Alexander the Great Rock Opera" that I saw today. Tomorrow and Wednesday I'll be at a couple of sites outside of the city before flying back to Istanbul on Thursday - and from now on, all flights will occur on separate days :).

The beach towns are totally deserted. All the hotels and cafés are shut up and no-one is around.

... bottle which was only 12% proof, and he did have some pure distilled raki which David said you could fuel a rocket with! We laughed all the way home and figured we were probably his best customers for weeks!

A bit further on we came across a lovely bakery in a little village and bought 2 bread rolls, a piece of milk custard cake and two small yummy cakes. It made us feel better about the bag of motley fruit! ...
