We were happy to be back in Italy where everything may be run by the mob for all we know but at least they seem to be more subtle about it and/or we are well below their radar as Americans who don't own anything here.

Our last tasting stop was Kabola Winery with its beautiful hillside vineyards in riotous colors of crimson, gold and green. Martina, the winemaker/owner’s daughter, was our hostess. She had recently rejoined the staff after graduating from Dublin University and working for Google marketing in Ireland. Kabola’s fruity and full-bodied teran was worth purchasing and we did.

... and huddled inside our room spending the evening drying one item at a time with the hairdryer. It is here that reinforced my main memory of Italy – Pizza in a hotel room. We scoffed it and proceeded to attempt sleep on a bed that was so old, we were scared if we turned the wrong way it would fold in half.

... treat for Michael at the end was driving back through Gracisce, just a short drive out of Pazin. Tiny village which is just working on restoring its Venetian Gothic style buildings. It currently is a mix of very new looking restorations and the absolute opposite. Michael enjoyed the town but the real treat was fig trees with the delicious green skinned variety. He was having fig picking withdrawals since southern Dalmatia so all is well ...
