We took a side trip by bus from Siena to San Gimignano for the day. It was a beautiful old medieval city built like a fortress on a hill top.This city in it's heyday, had 72 towers reflecting the wealth of it's inhabitants. We were keen to get further into Tuscany so headed off into the hills to the beautiful hilltop village of San Gimignano. With its fourteen 11th century towers (there were originally 72) this walled medieval city is located at the top of a hill surrounded by Tuscan countryside. It was stunning! We camped an easy 2km bike ride away so it was a great spot to spend a few days.

... Canaan took charge with the map and lead us to the hostel.
