final mubles and musings

... one. thanks, he was closing on me."

the "you want the real thing?!" and the "you're getting the real thing!" methods work well enough, but sometimes you get taken off-guard, up the creek without a paddle, or rather in the saddle without rock, or sometimes your sick of stopping to gather your stones, or you just need a different outlet for your fed up aggression. so other methods have evolved. Stephen was popular for developing the "i will run you over" method, where you simply ...

... how to prepare (insert name here...canot recall at this moment), basically raw fish sliced, and mixed with lemon juice, chilis, onoins, garlic, spices and served as-is. We also prepared Pisco Sour, a local drink made from a local grape like whisky, lemon juice and egg white.

Contrary to my instincts, I did try both. Not really for me, but I am well stocked with Immodium so nothing will keep me from trying just about anything!

All good things must come to an end...

My final week in Peru was a whirlwind, but man was it a blast! I arrived back in Arequipa on Tuesday morning – exhausted, but at the same time rejuvenated. I'm not quite sure how that works, but my body seems to do amazing things on Adrenaline (as you will learn about once I get around to posting about the beginning of the European leg of this trip – sorry, I am way behind). Maybe I should package it up and sell it – don’t go there!

Somewhere over South America

Wednesday 8:13 p.m.
I am not sure where we are at but about 2 hours from Lima. So I am guessing somewhere over South America. Boy am I ready to be there. I am tired and just need to get up and walk around. The flight is going really well. The plane is packed and I lucked out and I am sitting next to a really nice guy. He is going to Peru to be a tour guide for a 70 year old guy from California. This guy has never been to Peru which seemed weird to ...

... as it has been all the way. Cold in the morning and evenings, but hot sunny days. Perfecto!

Had to catch the train back to Cuzco that night, got in at about 11pm absolutely exhausted. I was lucky enough to have eaten something dodgy and had a rough night... the joy of travelling huh!

Then on to Lima, where we had to get Kaz's passport to the Brazillian embassy to get a new visa for Brazil. Lima is cool, the people are really lovely, but I ...

Lying on my back in Lima

... Street we had eaten at the other day. That time we had eaten a subpar Mexican meal but tonight we had a great Italian pasta with garlic bread. Its very like Lygon street with restaurants close together and people trying to pull you in. Luckily the doctor from the Lima hospital had given me a prescription for stronger pain killers (I'm sorry but caffeine just wont cut the mustard....or the pain) so I felt much better flying from Lima the next morning.

... has allowed the structure to sway with seismic waves, so it still stands today. Since Lima has a desert climate (the last significant rain was in 1970?), adobe lasts forever. The original builders worshiped gods of the sea, with periodic human sacrifices to curry favor with their gods. Later the pre Incas moved in and used it just as a cemetery, and still later the Incas moved in but left it alone. There's another interesting story that makes us think we should ...

... course, some were better than others. The only one I hated, and moved, was Bahia in Puerto Maldonado. Food was very average. Im not a foodie and generally eat quite cheap and usually on the street. For a country that claims to be the home of the potato and boasts over 4000 varieties they could be a bit more inovative. The only way I was served potato was boiled (and dry, with no sauce) or as chips. Occasionally they would serve a ...
