My favourite spot in Cali

... just my size. I'm not a pro or anything so I can't handle huge waves yet. I surfed at a beach break and later on watched the guys surf over by the pier. They had pretty cool tricks.
There's a reataurant at the end of the pier named Ruby's, I think many of the piers have one, in California anyway. Ruby's is beautiful restaurant, old fashioned coca-cola posters everywhere and a 1940's atmosphere. There is one of those olden days telephones where the ear and mouth parts are ...

Day 21 - Marines For Two Minutes

... the US Open. An hour or so up the road we decided we needed to get onto the Interstate and inadvertently found our way onto Camp Pendleton, home of the US Marines. Realising that we were approaching the security checkpoint and unable to turn around, we had no choice but to ask the young Marine at the gate if we could drive in to turn around as we had gone the wrong way! After giving us a puzzled look ...

Home From Pacific Northwest

After leaving the Oregon Coast we got into familiar territory with Northern and Coastal California. So we decided to do the Best of California on the way back home. We stopped at Frank Family Winery in Napa for a case or so of great wine, after of course the free wine tasting. From there we headed to Berkeley to crash with Amy's Cousin and have some fantastic pizza ...

The countdown has begun...17 days until departure!

It's hard to believe that we have less than 3 weeks until our year-long adventure officially begins! We say "officially" because we have been preparing for this trip for a long time now: deciding when to go, where to go, how long to stay, what to see, what we need to take, what we don't need to take, what immunizations to get, etc. And the truth is that we still don't have all the answers or ...

... where do we sign? So with a plan of sorts in place, we decided to spend our last day in San Diego taking a long walk over to Balboa Park whilst Andris shovelled down the hugest bucket coned heap of an ice cream I've ever seen. Every visible area of cream was smothered in nuts, chocolate, candy pieces and dripping with sugary syrup. He looked a right 'birthday boy' and lapped up every sticky bit of it the ...

Last stop Hollywood

... in along with lots of homeless people but there are still loads of tourists looking for their favorite actors on the pavement. Before we knew it it was time to head on to the airport for our final flight home. We just had time before we caught the airport bus to have lunch in the Mexican quarter near the station. It was hard eating fantastic Mexican food feeling the heat of the sun and not being tempted to skip our flight and hot foot it over to Mexico so as to carry on the dream.

Woo hoo, woo hoo!

... of rides a mummy returns roller coaster, which was super fast and made u feel like your lunch may land on your tummy, then all these things start going over your feet and it feels like cockroaches which is kinda gross, there are a few 3d rides with the 3d goggles, there was a shrek one and your chairs moved and when the donkey sneezed you got a face full of sprayed water and a terminator 2 one, where they used performers and effects which was cool. the best by ...

Los Angeles And Hollywood

... About 4ish we had done just about everything (not really any queues) so we headed to the cinema within the mock street outside the studio section and saw "March Of The Penguins". We then had a meal in the Hard Rock Café (Fajitas - no surprise there) before heading back to the motel. Stewart swam for a while before we collapsed! Day 304 Tuesday 30/08/05 Los Angeles We took a bus tour to get the most of the sights in LA. Picked up at 8.45 we went to their head office, paid up and were ...

LA STORY!

... up conversation with us for about half an hour, and in that time we said nothing, except maybe "Ye-", "N-", "Rea-". Possible the most self obsessed man in LA, and therefore the world. It was brilliant because he would ask you a question and as you go to answer him he would answer for you with another story about how good the 70s were / how many women he'd slept with / how many important friends he had, and then break into the gayest laugh... Anyway, he invited us ...
