Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan odekake... and headed out the backside of the mall to discover a jazz festival! Though the singer we heard was pretty good, the set in itself was a little bland and we lost interest.
Though we had hoped to go the zoo, we missed the last bus out there, so we headed back to the hotel in defeat. After a few hours recharching and napping, we decided to strike out and the beer festival we had heard so much about. We found it ...
Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan allmystrings... time, we went back to the hotel for showers and changes of clothes. A friend of the Yamanka's travel agent came by and treated us to a night on the town. He was the owner of a mexican restaurant in Sapporro (who knew?) and took us there to eat. After that we went wayyyy out into the boondocks to a public bath. Though we had been to several traditional hot baths, this was the first public bath we ...

Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan beachmonkieI came to Sapporo last year with my friends. On the last day, I went to visit the Ainu museum in Shiraoi by myself. Since then, I got in the PhD program, and I am focusing on the indigenous issues. Ainu culture is such beautiful. I got so much interest in their culture since then. This time, I came to Sapporo to meet up with more people. Haruzo from Kimitsu had me connect with Nanako. She's a graduate student at the Hokkaido University. We talked on the phone. She ...
Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan beachmonkieWe're in Sapporo now and it's absolutely amazing. However the hostel is charging ten yen per freaking minute to use the internet - which adds up to roughly $10 AUD an hour. So there won't be any further posts until we reach Tokyo again in another three days.

Missing you all,
Tom and Rachael
Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan tomfonder... for everyone else's sake), but it was pretty cool to wander around the hotel in my complimentary slippers. The bathroom was another matter, as I couldn't for the life of me work out what was going on. The entire room was completely automated to a crazy new level. The main lights would turn on as you entered. More lights would turn on as you entered a cubicle, as well as a fan automatically spinning on. Mmmm, heated seat. After backing one out I looked in vain for a flush ...
