Tenerife Amable

... ranks high in the spectacular stakes, and after all those Greek transfers the winding road up is no longer a worry! We walked the whole way from Playa Paraiso back to Los Cristianos, partly on hilly rocky tracks and partly on the seafront prom, and have also found one or two quiet beaches and some splendid over cliff walks to the apparent ghost town of Palm Mar. Andy has also achieved his ambition of getting from Adeje to Arona over the cliff ...

La Gomera

Arrived in Tenerife to a hot sunny afternoon... got the bus to Los Christianos with bikes still in boxes. All the fat sunburnt british tourists frightened us away and we got straight on a ferry to San Sebastian, on La Gomera. On arriving in SS, I started on the fun job of unpacking the bikes and attempting to rebuild them while M took off with a nice english expat to find us a pensione. A few surprises in the bike ...

Flying Home For Christmas

... I did get the view of Gran Canaria so have seen five of the seven Canaries in this trip, and Andy thinks he could just see Fuerteventura and Lanzarote from the top.
In addition to all the wonderful things we´ve seen, we´ll take back some more everyday memories of Tenerife. These include:
-swimming in the sea in December at Playa del Duque, with the backdrop of the splendid hotel and the even more splendid mountains, sometimes covered in black cloud while we bask in ...

The Valley of the Great King

... this 10km walk is a lengthy descent of La Merica which finished at our front door - how convenient is that?

It was with somewhat mixed feelings that we left the peace, views and excellent food of La Gomera to return to Tenerife. (although the home comforts of our Las Americas apartments did soften the blow!). Trained up after walking 85 km, we were then able to fulfill Andy´s ambition of descending the Barranco de Masca in the northwest of Tenerife. This descends ...

Escaping the Winter

... as Las Americas is so hilly even getting about it is good exercise - but we´ve made the most of the warm sea and sandy beach. We also took a walk up the Barranco del Infierno - about an hour and a half to the waterfall through a succession of different landscapes and dizzying views. We have found a good and very cheap restaurant, and eaten sardines and canary potatoes until they come out of our ears. In a desert of tribute bands, we´ve also ...

The Floating Mountain

We did make it up to the Las Canadas national park on Tenerife - a long day on the bus but worth it for wonderful walks and views: not just of Teide but of the mists rolling in over the volcanic landscape. We also made use of our walking book for a scramble behind Las Americas, and a vertiginous trip along a paved canal high above the resort. We stop for lunch at what Andy calls ´boccadillo point´ but there was also a ´Point ...
