... the worst... but nope. I saw two kids who asked something, but that was about it. I quickly learned how Romanian deal with them. They either wave them away or tell them to **** off. I decided to use the first method. It works very good. They immediately suspend their begging and find another person. When i arrived in the Hostel, (I made a reservation for Gia hostel, which is just two minutes from the train station.) there was only one person present, and of course she ...
Sighisoara, Transylvania, Romania travel_chris... Karla said ten words the whole rest of the trip, not that she was being reclusive, but she just didn't feel like commenting on Jaco's revolutionary use of artificial harmonics in the 1970's. Before we knew it, we were in Sighisora. We checked into the hostel, it was a really nice guesthouse with en-suite rooms. All of the guest rooms are semi-themed, or at least color-coded. Our room was the "love room" it was all shades of red with a hint of Japanese décor on the walls and a ill ...
Sighisoara, Romania tbassplayerGeorge and Roxana were nice enough to drive us to the train station on the day that we left Brasov. After a 1.5 hour train ride we arrived in Sighisoara, a small city in the Transylvanian countryside. The old town of Sighisoara is called the citadel and is on a hill high above the rest of the city that is composed of more modern buildings. Narrow stone staircases led up to the citadel where we were ...
Sighisoara, Romania worldtraveller9... other side of town I decided to suck it up and take the train an hour and a half later. I decided to wait at a picnic table outside the train station. While I was sitting there, a young woman (she looked in her early 20s) and her baby daughter came and sat at the table next to me. Although she didn't speak any English and at that point I didn't even know how to say thank you in Romanian (the first word I try to learn in every country I visit), we ...
Sighisoara, Romania warm... the streets and really enjoy this UNESCO World Heritage town. The other thing I would change is the place where we ate dinner. We ate at our hotel (Sighisoara) in a cavern/vaulted ceiling type place, and the service was horrible. We never got parts of what we ordered and finally just left our name and room number on a napkin because no one even came down there to give us a bill. We found out later that we ...
Sighisoara, Romania dueduedue... Adding to the frustration then, Friday was basically a wasted day. I had to scratch my plans for Ploiesti and then really didn't get out and do anything of note for the rest of the afternoon. I did get to call Mayu one more time by internet phone (and relate the story), which at least helped to lift my spirits some. But other than that it was a day that really would have been better spent moving on elsewhere, especially since I'm starting to get behind on my ...
Târgu Mures (Marosvásárhely), Romania xerius... more interesting stories is the small building which served a special purpose. Couples wanting a divorce were supposedly locked in here together for a period of weeks as a last ditch effort at resolving their differences. There was only one bed and one set of cutlery. The method was so successful that only one couple in 400 years actually went through with the divorce after such confinement! Any chance it would still work today? We eat our lunch in a medieval restaurant at the foot of ...
Sighisoara, Romania wareameye... clear, seeing as this was a fight between two foreign teenagers, I thought it best not to get involved. It was not yet too late (around 8 pm), and it was in front of the well lit and moderately congested train station, so alas best to move on. And move on we did, into the train, and out of Romania. But I'll end with this final note: I love that country. A vibrant, colorful, and historically intriguing location. And you know, the wine isn't too bad either.
Sighisoara, Transylvania, Romania danielwolfeNice miniature medieval town, cobbled streets, old squares, last stop in Romania. Happy to farewell Romania in a way, bit of a bad feeling and had another attempted robbery on the night train out (!!) also had some difficulty with the newly developing ...
