Surf and rocks for a change

... firm that sold motorhomes, caravans and accessories. As we have a need for fresh supplies of exciting stuff like toilet fluid we went in search. Having driven 30 miles we found it tucked down a side street with three motorhomes, four caravans(one rusty) and one bottle of toilet fluid. Result! Following on this success we visited the walled town of Obidos that was traditionally given by the King to ...

Obidos - saw just the wall

In the morning we went to Obidos, an old castle/city. There was a medieval festival the day before (just ended the day before or we would have seen people dressed in Medieval clothings!). Because of the end of the festival, we couldn't really go anywhere. So we ended up just climbing up a wall, took ...

Day(s) at the Beach

The next day we picked up our rental car and headed for the coast. We stopped off at the Casa de Ribeira winery for our best visit to a winery yet &#8211; a terrific friendly host, a 400+ year old building, a great selection of local snacks for lunch &#8211; delivered by the mother of our host and of course great wine. It wasn't so much of a wine tasting as it was "Let&#8217;s open several bottles and drink what until you are finished."<br><br>And though we could have continued sitting and ...

COIMBRA-FIGUEIRA DA FOZ-NAZARE

... etc. After roaming about for a good hour, we came back to the hotel to pick up our luggage.<br><br>On the way to Nazare, we saw signboards of Figueira da Foz so we drove that way to have a look. It was a lovely beach town &amp; a bustling port. Instead of taking the Motorway, we drove on the internal road to Nazare. We were overjoyed on reaching Albergaria Mar Bravo, our hotel. It was on the ...

... the afternoon walking around the old fort near the sea and noticed how perfect the diving conditions were around the bay (also noting how poor the surf conditions were at the same time). As the sun went down we headed back to the hostel and had a chilled out night filled with jamming out on the back patio. Two memorable songs infusions were "Pigeon in the tower" and "The Sex Panther." The next day ...

European Camping Culture, We Eat 200 Snails

... everynight, hence, the clown make-up and dying of the beard. I have decided to join him in the circus as a clown so i can sneak over the border to Morocco in a painted carnie caravan. yippiieee!!! Maybe it´s time to get out of Europe and back to the crazy country fun. Next day: The plot thickens. We met the werewolf guy in the brown dressing gown and pink crocs in person and it turns out he is one of those living statues who seem to be in every country. His character ...

Made it to Obidos!

... full of fun and interesting things to do. It was great to catch up with everyone that I met last year, and I learned a ton of new science. Which leads me to this morning (after I finally got home from the banquet)-I began the morning traveling with some other members of the conference back to Lisbon. We sat and had lunch at the town center (which is beautiful, there are so many historic sites here!). After that, I stopped off at the tourist ...

Medieval towns

... from any other style, is uniquely Moorish - plus you can see the intricate details carved into the stone.. haha just a taste of Moorish architectural styles. :) This town is also very important to Portugal, for it symbolizes their independence from Spain. The architect had been living in England for a while, so his design for this church and its cloisters were heavily ...

FAREWELL LISBON - HELLO NAZARE

... and hard.  Weºre learning to pay more attention to our belongings - Iºve managed to leave my eyeglasses at the last internet cafe and we forgot our coats on the bus at Nazare - thank goodness the Portuguese are honest and helpful as we were able to recover everything in a timely manner. Well weºre going to insert some photoºs and sign off.  Weºll try to update every 2-3 days as time and location permits. Special hello to both our momºs :)

Peniche and Obidos

... slowly for Greece and Turkey. We have booked our mooring in the Marina there and are trying to get a cheap apartment as well. Near Peniche is the walled town of Obidos which Gina discovered in the Rough Guide. We went there on Monday and were absolutely gobsmacked by it. It still retains the original castle and walls and is contained within them. It is picture postcard beautiful We only had about two and a half hours there but are sworn to return to stay there for ...
