Beauvais Beauvais, Picardy, France, 75000
... this is la France profonde (“deep France” doesn’t quite do the phrase justice). A glass of red wine was only 1 Euro, also very unusual.

I then drove back to Azincourt where there is a medieval history center, which I found very interesting. They have exhibits about longbows and crossbows, and the armor of the time. They have an exhibit where one can pull on a rope to feel the strength it takes to pull a 50 pound bow. It has been established that ...
Gisors, Haute-Normandie, France joelmeeker... had to go, and I had a feeling the van would want to retire in this spot as it felt like the end of the road and low and behold when we came to get going the battery was dead! Five days slowly draining the main battery through the leisure battery had finally killed it off. For one, hopefully last, time we had to ring the AA for a jump start. Two house later the very nice mechanic gave us a jolt and that was it we drove out of Paris, I can say I tackled the most famous nine lane ...
Beauvais, Picardy, France teten... the apartment and crashed. Sunny has a huge apartment, 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, living room, and a balcony, from which you can see a tiny bit of the Mediterranean. She gets to stay there by herself because all the other girls in the program chose to live with host families. So we all had our own room, which I was not expecting. So overall it was a long long day of traveling, but it was good to be in Spain. Read the continuation in the next entry.....
Beauvais, Picardy, France hithere52... of Auvers-sur-Oise. It was the final home of Vincent van Gogh. Here he painted: The Church at Auvers; Wheat Field with Crows; Daubigny's Garden and Thatched Cottages by a Hill... to mention a few. He stayed in an upper room at the Ravoux Inn... where he died in July of 1890 at age 37. Sad to say... this ended our Adventures in Europe...
Auvers-sur-Oise, Île-de-France, France randyorrell... access. I purchased wifi at a small eatery, but the reception is so poor that it takes several minutes to load every page. You'd think that for the price they are charging, they would guarantee decent reception...ah but this is Europe and my American expectations are despised as ostentacious. Brian finally got through to me and wanted me to go back to Paris, Charles DeGaulle Aeroporte and get *any* flight I could to Rome. I do not relish the thought of ...
Beauvais, France sly.modI have always been interested in France. Also in the most beautiful villages of France. One of them is Gerberoy. Close (300 km./180 miles) to my home we went to visit it. It was desolated and abandonned until Henri-Eugene le Sidaner decided to reside there. He was a painter and other artists came and restored the village to its beauty it is now.
Gerberoy, Picardy, France leukerdbe... search of something warm to eat. While walking through the lonely lanes of the town, we turned back every now and then to get a glimpse of the omnipresent cathedral. And as we ate our moulles and escargot over cherry beer we could see through the window of the petit French country bistro the lace-like spires protrude from ...
Beauvais, France zento... Louvre and went to the Eiffel Tower one more time. The Louvre was huge, but the outside was really cool with the pyramid and all. We then went back to the Eiffel Tower. I love just looking at it. It is so amazing - I think I took like 50 pictures of that alone. After that we headed back to the hostel to pick up our luggage and go to the train station. We ended up having to take four cabs for the 8 of ...
Paris, France jessica_caywood... floor and found the desk. Stupid system! No signs in French or English telling you where to go. With that done we went to the Air France bus but because of a work stoppage the route we wanted was not running. So, we got on the one to Montparnesse (studying our map on the way). Managed to buy Metro tickets and make our way to the hotel stop. It was much easier to follow than I expected but the stops were pretty dirty - lots of trash and graffiti. So, now we're ...
