Historical Traveler Reviews Villa Apollon Skiathos

Villa Apollon, fantastic place, great hospitality!

We really enjoyed our stay at Villa Apollon with Dounia and Captain; they were great hosts - very accommodating - making it a very comfortable and memorable holiday. Our apartment was very well equipped it had everything we needed. The location was good not far from the town and easy access to the beach and shops.

    We will be back!

I want to be back there !!!!

I went for my 3rd stay at the Apollo in June with my husband, and it just gets better. The views cannot be beaten - the feeling of all your cares melting away the second you arrive - and then the horrible part when you have to come home :-(

From the moment you get there until that horrible moment when you leave, Captain and Dounia cannot do enough for you. We love the place so much we went there for our honeymoon, when we could have gone to far more "swanky" resorts. It really is a home-from-home for us (and we wish it WAS our home), I could go on and on about it - but I suppose the best thing I can do is say look at their website, look at the other reviews about it, and then, try for yourself - you won't regret it. In fact we love it so much we're going back again in September to celebrate our 1st anniversary - and we can't wait !!!

I can fully authenticate the previous reviews on the Apollon. My partner and I have been visiting Skiathos for 4 years (sometimes twice a year) and the Apollon is without doubt the most wonderful place for a chilled holiday.

Dounia and Captain were fantastic hosts and their enthusiasm rubs off of everybody. The setting is idyllic with views that are picture-postcard. All the rooms have a wonderful sea view and when we visited (June 06) we had numerous swifts nesting around the villa. We even had a nest on our balcony which was really delightful! To sit in an evening by the pool watching the birds swoop down to the water give you a real "Attenborough" experience!

Whatever you do do not leave without experiencing one of the Captain's famous BBQ's - The steak is delicious - but be hungry - be very hungry!

The rooms are spotless (cleaned every day) with a/c, TV and safe - which is 4 star hotel facilities!! Achladies is only about 7 mins. By bus (bus stop 30 seconds outside Villa) from the bright lights of the town and only 5 euros return by taxi if you happen to miss the last bus home.

All in all we could have no complaints and only praise for what Dounia and Captain have achieved. Thanks to them both for contributing to a wonderful holiday.

Miss this gem at your peril.

Our fabulous time at the Apollon

This was our 1st visit to the Apollon and definitely won't be our last!!!! Such a fabulous place. We stayed in a 2 bedroomed apartment which was just perfect with everything you could ask for and more. The rooms were cleaned daily with fresh towels and bedding. The views from the Apollon are outstanding and as for the owners, well what can I say. Dounia and Captain gave us such a warm welcome and made the Apollon feel like our home. They are both very kind people and helped make our holiday very special.

There were plenty of sunbeds and the pool was immaculate. The food at the Apollon really is something else. This was our 3rd time in Skiathos and can honestly say that it was the best food we have had on the island.

If you are looking to stay at the Apollon then you won't be disappointed and I'm sure Dounia and Captain will ensure you have a great holiday just as we did.

    Brilliant Holiday

we once again stayed at Villa Apollon (Apollo) Achlaides Bay, Skiathos In September 2005, It just gets better every time we go there. The owners Dounia & Themistockles are wonderful hosts and alway appear to have added something new. This time the BBQ and Kitchen had been totally revamped, plus new equipment in the accommodation - TV - Air Conditioning - Iron - Ironing Board - Wall Safe - Hair Dryer etc etc, everything you could possibly need. The location is superb, from every balcony you overlook Achlaides bay and the lovely blue Aegean Sea. The pool bar is open from 8 till late, serves wonderful home cooked meals and snacks. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday to recharge the batteries or have youngsters who want to go clubbing in town then you can't do better than beautiful Skiathos.

    Little bit of paradise

At Villa Appollon in beautiful Skiathos you will received the most warmest of welcomes anywhere on earth, your hosts are the kindest and most warm hearted people you could meet.

The pool is lovely and relaxing, and pool bar always open......the food Pizza ever, just to name one thing that is cooked with fresh ingrediants every day.

I cannot recommend this place enough

    Our Paradise too!!

Yes, Captain and Dounia are the most wonderful hosts. Nothing is too much, it's like returning home year after year.

We have been going to Skiathos since 1999 and found Apollo Apartments in 2001. We have only missed one yer since then and that's because 'there was no room at the inn'. We ensured we'd get this year and are off on Friday 27th.

As usual, I will not want to return to England.

A wonderful, relaxing, entertaining (Captain cooking, Dounia making those wonderful 'adult milkshakes) dancing in the moonlight, picturesque holiday. It has everything and more.

They are now independent and very good value - you'll never look back.

    Our Paradise !

Have stayed at the Apollo almost every year since 1997 - and some of those years gone there more than once !. The difference really is the way you are made to feel welcome by Dounia,Themistocles and Alexandra ( their daughter ). Nothing is too much trouble - there are always smiles and "hello babies" for all the guests, and people who started as "mine hosts" have become dear and valued friends over the years.

The view from the bar and balconies is totally mesmerising - you sit there - looking out over Achaldies bay - and all the stress and troubles you may have at home vanish. Themistocles ( or "Captain" as he is affectionately known ) states early in your stay to take off your watch and just enjoy the time you have - as they run on GMT - or "Greek Maybe Time".

People seeking all the bells and whistles should not look to Skiathos - its the definitive basic Greek accomodation - but it is its simplicity that makes it so wonderful. Time has no meaning, and for those who seek an island with beaches aplenty, and a blend of relaxation and evening activity, without the worry of the "lager lout" could do no better than visit this idyllic island. And if you come - trust us - you WONT do better than the Apollo for a place to stay. !

And to make it even better - they are now independant of tour operators - so they are REALLY good value for money and with so many airlines offering charter flights to Skiathos now - get to this island while there are seats free !

Superb Views, Food & Accomodation Excellent

Villa Apollo is a lovely place to stay on the beautiful island of Skiathos. All the apartments which are spotless have balconies with fantastic views of the sea, there is a lovely swimming pool with free loungers tables and chairs, there is also a poolside bar which appears to never close, the food that the lovely owners Dounia & Themistokles cook is delicious and large portions and also covers every taste, the steaks are enormous. All the apartments are very well equipped with a grill, oven, hot plates plenty of crockery, glasses cups etc also most have an iron and hairdryer and if there is anything else you want the owners are only too happy to oblige, they all also have Air Condioning !!! The owners are a nice family and genuinely friendly and helpful. they love children and so are very welcome and all seem to get on together very well. There is a bus stop just a few metres from the Villa which runs every 20 mins along the only proper road from Skiathos town to Koukounaries beach (voted the best beach in Greece) there are nearly 70 beaches on the island all of them sandy (including 1 naturist). l Skiathos is a very green island with forests and woods and some stunning walks, well worth hiring a scooter or 4x4 for a few days to discover what lays along the tracks, incredible.

    Fantastic holiday

The rooms are very well maintained, clean and airy with air conditioning if required. Food is excellent the owners are friendly and accommodating, nothing is too much trouble. If nothing on the menu suits they will happily provide something else. A quiet and friendly place but not suitable for the less able as it is 350metres downhill to the beach. We went last year, this year and will be returning next year. Hair dryers, kettles, toasters, irons and ironing boards in all rooms

We went to John & Polly's to see their house and one the way you have to go past Kitty City, this is a collection of stray cats that are fed by the local ex-pat animal charity. There are hundreds of cats on the island.

We excavated 3000 year old amphora from one of the beaches, Alonisoss was famous for its wine and exported all around the globe even back then. We ...

We parked on the pebble beach and whilst Les had a nap I sorted through some photos on the computer. Logan was outside enjoying watching small fishing boats chugging in and out of the tiny harbour. In contrast to yesterday it's very still here and the sea just Laps onto the beach, it's very ...

... the mirning seems ri have passed us by, time is getting on and if we are going to go for a walk we'll have to get a route planned. We give up on post offices and look at the walking Pellion web site. There is a suitable walk from the village below us on the coast. We wind our way down, park, have lunch and set out following the directions that we have photographed on Les's phone. The whole this peninsular is crossed and zigzagged with Kalderimia-cobbled ...

The kids and Wifey thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon, we have to say the Greek's have been so hospitable towards us during our stay. Dinner was a mushroom risotto lovingly prepared by Wifey and I have to say it was really tasty indeed. I finished the kids left overs off too.

    ... back in, bless him.

When we got back to Dawn's she was telling us about the cat next door who came to say hello, apparently they thought it was a girl so they called it Mabel. When it grew up and established just one testicle they were still unsure so changed Mabel's name to Maybe (this had us in stitches).

We have had a run of sun so have been ...
