Volcanic sand, a terrific resort, sublime weather

When we got to the Perama stop in Lovina we waited for the free lunch that was included in the ticket price. A small portion of fried rice with no vegetables or meat, and a hard sell to stay in their guesthouse on the premises. We told them we had prepaid reservations at the Villa Agung and asked for a ride there, which was included in the ticket price. After waiting 30 minutes we concluded that ferrying us to lodging other than that owned by Perama was not their priority, so WM struck out on...

Lodging Review--Villa Agung

Villa Agung is a moto or bemo ride from the businesses in Lovina. If you want to be in the thick of the nightlife and restaurants this is not the place for you.

Wandering_woman and I are not that kind of traveler. The Villa is in a perfect location for us.

There are A/C rooms in a hotel style for 220,000 Rp per night. We opted for the rice barn fan bungalow for 170,000 with fan on both floors. It is the closest lodging to the sea at the Villa. There is another rice barn fan bung...

Lovina day 129 and 130 (26th & 27th September)

... got some food and drink at my local favourite restaurant; the Spice bar (found on the beach). Once again the locals ended up giving me and Sara loads of Arak vodka shots and we also shared a few large Bintangs between us, I was feeling a bit drunk and really hungry. My steak did not diminish my hunger, so Sara said she wasn't feeling hungry and asked me to finish off her sandwich. After I polished off her sandwich we chatted some more with the locals ...

Gary's big adventure

... to get any ones attention he left the car, walked around to the beach side of the compound, and had to climb over the locked gate in order to get r inside and back to our room.
The next day our host right away asked what happened as Gary went out to move our car off the narrow road and into the compound. Needless to say, they were horrified as the nightwatchman never woke up during this whole ordeal. Life is an adventure.
the road less traveled

Gary keeps comparing Bali to India. We had heard that things here were very inexpensive so I didn't bring much, as I thought I would buy while we were here. Well Ubud was very touristy and expensive, although they really had some fabulous items to buy. Lovina is much less a tourist destination, so things are less expensive if you bargain. I can buy a sarong for $3.00 US, and they will ...

Leaving Lovina- GitGit Waterfall

... my little friends left. They weren't there to bother me, not in the least. They were just intrigued by a foreigner and wanted to play. Our taxi ride came to pick us up at 2... actually he was even a little early! I think taxi rides are the one thing that work on normal regular time and not Bali time here. Our driver first drove us to GitGit, Bali's largest waterfall! We walked on a concrete stone path the 15-minute walk to the head of the 200 foot waterfall and looked ...

a 3 story black and gold cow is going to die

The last 12 hours in Taiwan were full of such random kindness that it made leaving even harder. First, one of the instructors at the gym offered to drive me to the airport the next morning.. even though that meant meeting at 530am! Then I went to buy ice cream for dinner (don't tell mom!) and the guy working there remembered me from when I came weeks ago and couldn't wait because they were taking too long, and I was late. So today he gave me icecream for free ...

... stick with jeans?" About a millisecond later, my fantasy ends and reality dictates that the day will just be me and my black pants. I think, if our $3 calculator from the supermarket in Prague is correct, that I've now worn The Pants about 170 of the 284 days we've been traveling so far. I'm developing a really strange relationship with them, because I honestly miss them on the days they stay ...

Reliefs, Temples and Rice Paddies

... and I can only imagine what it would be like in the high season. "Where to next?", we asked, since this had been a much better experience, and he suggested something called the Rocky Temple, or Gunung Kawi, which was at Sebatu, not far from Titra Empul. We drove up into the hills, through a number of villages and into a forest with gorges so deep and covered in vegetation there was no way to tell how far they really went down. I contemplated taking a photo or two but ...
