Split - quiet but good weather

... so a lot of people in Split would have gone back to their villages or home town for the weekend.
Also explains why the graves in Zagreb looked so good the day too.
Went to Gaga which the barman at the first bar said if any place would be busy, that place would be and it was dead.

Saturday walked around the market, got Burek for breakfast and then up a bunch of stairs to get a good look over Split.

What we thought would be a vacation...

... with him quite a bit to get him back to the price we thought we were getting. In the end, it worked out and we had a 3-bedroom apartment with a really beautiful view all to ourselves for 480 Kuna altogether (that’s only $16 each a night which is really cheap in Europe). We got settled in just in time for sunset, took some pretty pictures from our lanai, and then went to the market down the street for groceries. We cooked a good dinner ...

... the town just around the bend and there is a promenade that we are looking forward to walking along…we are also hoping for some seafood for dinner!

This campsite is along the coast of Croatia just before the bigger town of Split. Yesterday, we drove from our campsite near Zadar along the coast for a couple of hours and found this spot…we wanted something that was close to a small town and also to Split, but ...

... into two halves and connects the Silver gate with the Iron gate. Outside the Iron Gate lies the 15th century Venetian-style town hall, while outside the Silver Gate you’ll find a busy market filled with colorful produce, locally produced olive oil, and elderly women operating flower stands. The Golden Gate leads to a 1929 statue of Gregorius of Nin, a 10th century religious leader. His big toe has been polished to a high shine by local residents who touch it for good luck.

Trogir, World Heritage City

... town. Did you know that the old town of Trogir (part inscribed in the World Heritage list) is on an island? It is a very small town where of course no cars are allowed (within the city walls) since the streets are really alleyways! It is refreshing not to have any mechanical noises constantly. I walked around town and made my way to the central square with the cathedral of St. Lawrence. It was ...

Aukioiden reunalla nyhdetaan parikymmenta kunaa tuopista, mutta muutamasta paikasta puoli litraa irtoaa jo 15 kunalla ja halvempikin paikka on jo loytynyt. Hostelli on tosiaan taynna mukavaa porukkaa, sen verran mukavaa etta oli pakko jaada tanne viela toiseksikin yoksi. Iltahan meni tietysti ensin hostellin terassilla ja sitten eraassa syrjakujan halvemmassa kuppilassa.

A visit to Trogir

... the magnificent stone masonry was 1700 years old! After coffee the four kids returned home while Jess and I went and organised the ferry tickets for the journey to Rijeka tomorrow. The woman serving me printed out the tickets and took my credit card off me and said '3200 kuna please'. I did a double-take as I did a quick conversion in my head.. $720 - that didn't sound right. The woman must have seen the look on my face because as I started to query the cost she ...

Split!!

... time, as I couldn't check into my hostel into 12pm. The guy in the cafe said it was ok for me to leave my backpack so I headed to the palm tree lined promenade for a bit of people watching, lovely. I enjoyed a lovely cold Iced Tea: cheers for getting me into that Kat! I got a good vibe from the place, seemed like a lively and bustling town. The directions to it seemed a bit obscure, rightly so, it was down some tiny little street ...

Go Bananas in Split

... it goes away. Later we took a walk down to the closest beach to us, though there are many. We got a little confused on the way and didn't know how to get there. It was another good example of how nice the folks are in Split when a old man stopped us and pointed us in the other direction. I don't even know how he knew we were going there. It's really amazing the beach was so tucked away that we couldn't see it when we were only metres away. It's not quite ...

Spilt Up

... coves looked the sort of place you could spend a good while doing nothing, but we plan to do that on the islands of Hvar and Korcula over the next week before heading to Bosnia. Trogir is similar to the main attraction in Central Split, the Dioclesian Palace. A Roman Emperor, Diocles, retired here in the 3rd Century and built a huge palace that today still stands, albeit not so well protected as it is full of shops and tourists, many of them pink due to the strength of ...
