      Living in paradise

This is all about my productive week back "home"!

First of all, I have realized how much I missed Lugano and how lucky I am to have spent the last two years of my life studying here. This is a fantastic place to complete a Master in International Tourism, while at the same time I had the feeling of being on holidays all year round. Normally, Swiss people living in the german-speaking cities come to Lugano during the ...

... home town, which leads to the question: how do people make a living in a village like this? Unfortunately my memories of this town are more of frustration. Believe it or not, I take, not one, not two, but THREE wrong turns in this tiny town! Day 274 1 hr, 1 km With the steep, wooded mountainside to my left and a valley that is quickly narrowing to my right it's only a few hundred meters and I'm in the next town, Messe. I know that the uphill climb is getting close, including my big goal: to cross the Splugenpass from Italy to Switzerland on foot. I know it was just planted here for the warm months, but seeing a banana tree in someone's yard just feels really unappropriate. C'mon folks, this is the ...

1686. A Town full of Barns

... anyway to get up there... Gordona has a very different feel to any other town I've been in. Why? Well, it's a fairly large, urbanized town, but at half the buildings are look like old, stone and timber barns! It gives it a rugged farmer feel--I guess here at the end of the day people would just bring their animals into town to keep in their barns. Kind of a cozy feel. Some of the barns are in disrepair--but you can still see that a lot of love went into building ...
