... at Julie and Neil’s place in Eze. We had booked a couple of days away in Italy so I had Thursday and Friday off again. We left early Thursday morning for Bellagio on the shores of Lake Como. It was about 5 hours’ drive with motorway most of the way. The last part consisted of narrow, windy roads. When we arrived in Bellagio we were very pleased that the car they had hired had a GPS because it took us through the narrow main street and down to our ...

We have breakfast on the Terrace that provides us with a great view of Lake Como, the sun is shining, a family of swans are swimming past. The breakfast spread is good, coffee is good, ah Bellagio it is everything we expected. As the shops are not open we decide on a walk around to Punta Spartivento or Point where the Wind divides, or to you the Point of the Peninsular. It provides great views to both sides of Lake Como to Varenna to the East and Managgio to the West.

... seeing she had been so helpful I gave her the 70 cents change, but was she grateful of my generosity, no way, so I probably carry a Gypsy Curse with me now.

Soon we are heading out of Milan and make our way up into the mountains for the 55 minute ride to Varenna where we will catch a ferry to Bellagio. The views are spectacular and all is going fantastico as we pull into Varenna until two stupid Poms don't know how to open the ...

... 8211; off we go. Zoom, zoom – bits of wheeled luggage start journeys of their own. I reckon it’s Ok because our seats are some distance away from the chaos, but I am given further instructions and go and squeeze our cases into a couple of tight spots that are more or less designed for that purpose.

Step two – Milano to Varenna. We’re expecting a few challenges changing to the ...
