... so much Russian action here is a bit of mystery, when just along the coast Mirissa seems to attract travellers from right across Europe and only a scattering of Russians. One thing we definitely love about Hikki is the Sri Lankan food and what is, I reckon, some of the best curry on the planet. Resisting the urge for some top-class borscht, we were lured into a little curry house round the corner by the smell of roasting spices, and pretty much stayed there for the ...

After 4 nights we left Dinaka and John but only after we had had our photographs taken with John for the boss and we had been given a lottery ticket each for the big draw the next day. We promised to return and share the money if we won but not surprisingly we didn't win.

Today we travelled from Kandy to Colombo and then took the costal train to hikkaduwa in the south. Left at 10.30 and arrived at 6.30. One 5 min gap between trains! Found a great place to stay, with a pool, which we got for 5 pounds a night when it should have been 30! Lucky the guy took pity on us. This is a beach paradise so may stay here for a few ...
