    Tsunami Museum

... and also of personal losses experienced, including property, lives and livelihood. It was very interesting to learn that many individuals had never heard the term 'tsunami'. Many locals, upon viewing the sea withdraw 1km, were shocked to see so many fish flapping about, so ran out to catch them seeing this as good fortune and lucky. Only to a few minutes later be confronted with a huge, powerful, 10 metre wave. There were two waves which hit ...

We had a little trouble finding the Tamara Motel in Hikkiduwa (pronounced hee-cad-oo-wah, or no one will know where you mean). The hotel is at the end of a narrow alleyway between two shops off the traffic-clogged Galle Road, - with just a tiny blue sign nailed to a tree that points the way. So there have been a few changes since I was last here, the main change is that there are monkeys on chains for the stupid tourists to have their photos with. ... everywhere. We saw 5 blue whales and jojo was able take some pictures in spite of the fact it was very challenging: the sea was rough and big waves were shaking our boat from side to side and not to mention keeping the camera dry was another challenge on its own. Unfortunately we did not see any dolphins but the whales were just an incredible experience of a lifetime.

The forced break from the sun tanning was over thanks to the trip and a local aloe-coconut cream that ...

Day 154 - Hangover in the Fort

A travel blog entry by costin on Mar 02, 2014

... the waves crash against the shore. There was only one real answer - I went back to bed.

I woke up a few hours later and felt even worse, but at least there were people up now, so I chatted with Colin. He looked only fractionally better than I felt! Kim, despite not being hungover, had grasped the opportunity to have a lazy day with both hands, she didn't even want to get up for breakfast. ...
