This evening we went on an excursion to Kumrovec, the hometown of Joseph Broz (also known as "Tita"). Tita was the elected president of the former Yugoslavia.  We learned that there are many in the 6 provinces of the former Yugoslavia that still have fond memories of Tita.  They are quick to point out that he was a socialist, not a communist, and truly wanted the best for his people.  He grew up very poor in a peasant community.  The poor ...

... form of selbstbidildung and wouldn't that be awful? We took the local boat to the island in the middle of the lake. They are a special flat-bottomed boat with no rudder, just the skill of the boatman to row in the proper direction. The next day, clouds lifted and we took off to drive the Panorama Tour of the three valleys. This route is about 25 km long and traverses mountain rims with views of forests, farms and meadows.

... the scenery was stunning with some impressive agriculture in Italy.

To maintain an average speed of 60km/hour is difficult. Oh well, we were on holiday so what’s the rush. So to the sound of German rock and roll on the radio we took a leisurely drive from Switzerland into Italy and then into Austria where we stopped at a small camp ground in Glanz. Three countries in one day. Not ...

... dripping of water into the caverns. I will post some photos so you get an idea of what it is like....eerie but interesting. Marty felt quite at home with the scary faces, although we both wondered what they might signify. We go across the Ponte Del Diavolo, or Devil Bridge. Apparently, or so the story goes, when the bridge was first constructed the devil said he would kill the first to cross over the bridge so the townspeople sent a dog across and no-one needed to be ...
