      ... literally means "jagged (serrated) mountain." Montserrat is famous for the "black virgin of Montserrat", a statue of the virgin and baby Christ carved out of wood. The statue was carved sometime in the 12th century and it is one of several "black" Madonna's in Europe.       ... our picnic lunch on the monastery steps then wandered around inside. The area with the candles is really beautiful.
