... us, but as they were camping we had the 10 bed dormitory to ourselves, there were no other guests. We are finding that not very many people are walking this section of the GR 10, probably because accommodation is very limited. To begin the day we had a transfer by car from Aunac to St Lizier de Ustou. The very friendly taxi driver made a small detour for us so we could get some money out of a teller machine in a town along the way. When he dropped us off the trail of ...

This day will go into history as "the day of the mud"... We started off at 0730 Hrs with a short transfer to the hamlet of Bouche. The area here is extremely rural, just some tiny little villages, some with a gite in them, and not more than a few dozen houses. We knew the day was going to be long, so we wasted no time and were on the trail at ten to eight. As usual the day started with an interesting little climb, ...

We had bought 2 picnics that morning, which the French call a pique nique, and shared one of them. As rain was threatening we ...

... a wall of clouds, it looked fantastic! After a while we reluctantly started our descent and soon found ourselves in the clouds again in foggy conditions. This didn't last too long though before we came out underneath the clouds this time into a day that looked a little gloomy. This suited the scenery as we started to come upon the ruins of mining equipment, houses and sheds from zinc and lead mines which were ...

... for some time and at the end found ourselves on a very pretty but muddy alpine meadow, but there were no animals to be seen. We saw a shepherd standing on the edge of a lake far below getting ready to water his sheep. We moved on and passed several mountain huts but did not stop at those. After another hour or so we came to an area which was described in our tracknotes as "a delicate passage, not to be attempted in bad weather". The warning was apt as it was very ...
