  • So after procuring provisions for lunch (more cheese and bread, a little wine (long drive so need some to stay sober)), the convoy leaves for Grotte et Musee Du Mas-D'Azil.

... two climbs were similar in the sense that each had a marker only with 3 km left to go.

Once on top I met the requisite Brit (from Surrey) and chatted with a local for some time before realizing that this sort of interaction (coupled with a similar talk with someone from Toulouse at the previous col) put my plan of getting a baguette from which to fashion lunch into serious jeopardy, ...

... were stretches at 5%, most of the climb was at 7% or 8%. To add insult to injury, the descent had great patches of loose gravel, some of which was very difficult to see as we moved from shade to sun. Peter let it go, and scared himself quite dramatically. Lori and I just about used up all of our brake pads keeping the speed way down. We are going to have dinner here tonight, which will involve lots of discussion of possible "alternate routes" for tomorrow's ...
