... well have been, but to me and millions of others all around the world, he was a genius.

The draw of the Pyrenees has always been pulling me, and as it’s now starting to get stifling hot and busy on the coast it seemed like a good time to get in and have a look. I also wanted to check Andorra off the 'been there’ list so, happy that the clutch was ok, I trundled Northwestwards again and uphill. I’d read in the good old rough guide about ...

... looking for a place to get a bite of lunch, but all the places we tried were running Father's Day dinners and were full. Lori very kindly gave me a piece of her black bread and cheese, without which I would probably not completed the day. I tried to talk Peter and Lori into taking Barry's "alternate" route, to no avail, so on we went to tackle the third col which was supposed to be around 5% over 14 Kms. In my humble opinion, and that of most who did this climb, ...

DAY 8/June 21: Les, Spain to Oust

... obviously a couple guys there doing support for a group of their customers.

A couple hundred metres up the road was the plaque in the wall where Fabio Casartelli died, followed shortly by the marble monument in his memory.

The lower part of the climb to Col de Portet d'Aspet was, despite being steep, fairly pleasant. There was plenty of tree cover to provide shade on a hot day and the road was lined with stone walls. Then ...
