... burgeoning veg plot and a shady stable for their Shire 'Ben' and Irish tinker pony. Olaf has taught himself to make tipis and two 8m tipis stand proudly on the land. Their sun bleached canvas gentle tugging with the breeze which thankfully skims across the slopes. the swimming lake is blissful! The dark 6m depths are home to carnivorous fish, frogs and dragonflies, edged with dense bull rushes. We drove away from the wind whipped coast yesterday so we've been ...
Departing from our first Portuguese placement early left us in a lull. Then the messaging service on 'workaway' declined to work for a couple of days....so all things considered we decided it be best to go to the beach! ....and we've just had the most exhilarating 4 day holiday camping on windswept cliffs watching the Atlantic rollers roll in. So much of the crumpled strata, pebble and sand bays and wild ocean spray reminded us ...
Quiet day today, as we had to find a place to watch the France - Germany game before 5. In hindsight I'm not so sure why we bothered, the game was largely soporiphic. The only comfort is that the Portuguese seemed to be rooting for us, thanks guys! But anyways the campsite is nice and family oriented, the swimming pool is big, and ...
... The Portuguese use a lot of coriander in their cuisine, very enjoyable. On the way back, it seemed to me the city was getting ready to welcome hordes of British youths ready to take on the night, as dancing bars and apartments in town were slowly filling up with cockney accents. Lovely. Tomorrow, the challenge will be to find a place to view the game with a not too extensive German crowd, as both victory or defeat could prove either dangerous or ...
Today we reached the end of Europe, to be precise the southwestermost point on the continent mainland, the Cape of Saint Vincent :). A barren place with tall cliffs directly above the sea, the only human landmark being a lighthouse, a few trucks/shops selling wool pullovers and bratwurst(!), and fishermen fishing fish from the top of the cliff(!!). So, after reaching a dead end on the north - south axis, we switched to the west - east one, in the direction of ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Vilabranca Apartments Lagos
Great place lovely spacious apartment
Myself and family(husband, 2 children 12 and 8 yrs) stayed here last year in june and we could not fault it. The apartment was excellent spacious and clean. The recent new pool was freezing though, the older pool was great to swim in.Staff was pleasant and friendly especially in reception.
We found the onsite restarant expensive, walk into town for a meal there is lots to choose from.
The supermarket was a few minutes walk across the road and had a great selection of all you needed.Lagos was a lovely place and we would and will go back. This year we are off to portugal again but trying a different place i hope its as good as vilabranca but i'm sure it won't be . I'll let you know !!!!!! A great hoilday we didn't want to leave and the weather was HOT too.
Couldn't have been better!
We found out about Vilabranca through TripAdvisor. We needed a room for 3 nights a couple of weeks ago and found out that there was a special on one-bedroom apartments for 80 Euros a night. We booked our apartment the night before arriving. We were in complete awe when we arrived - the entire complex as well as the apartment were pristine. Service was superb and we were extremely pleased with our apartment (despite the lingering cigarette smell). We were also very glad to have our own kitchen and have two meals a day there. We were within walking distance of the grocery stores, city centre and many beaches were very close by. We will definitely be going back!
I recently spent two weeks with my husband at the Vilabranca, which was everything we thought it would be, according to previous reviews. The apartment was spacious, clean and very well equipped. Towels and bedding were changed frequently, and when we reported the breakage of a glass to reception, there was no problem. The swimming pools were lovely and clean, and there were plenty of sun-beds for everyone.
All the staff, without exception, were pleasant and helpful, particularly those on reception. The food at the restaurant was very good, comparable with other restaurants. We will definitely be back.
We booked to stay here last minute after checking on Trip Advisor.
We were delighted with our choice. The only downside being that we were only staying for 3 nights.
The apartments are spacious and contain everything that you require.
Beautiful gardens,pools,playground and tennis courts.
The staff went out of there way to be helpful.
Would not hesitate to return.
Quality apartments, very clean and smart
We holidayed here in summer 2003 and had a really great holiday. Our apartment was spotless when we arrived and it was kept that way throughout our stay.
Our appt. had two balconies (note not all do) which meant the sunworshippers in our party could could catch the rays from our appt. no matter what time of the day.
The bar was pleasant and the restaraunt was OK (nothing really special) but just a short free bus ride (or a cheap taxi ride outside the bus running times) away was Lagos which was stuffed full of nice bars and eating stops. The pool areas was nice but if I remember correctly the pool itself was not heated so the water is COLD!!
The staff (particularly the room maids) were very friendly and courteous.
You are some way outside the main resort area but this makes for a quiet holiday - our apartment over looked an area that was ripe for development so it may be worth checking that they have got no current developments in the immediate vacinity.
Just nearby there is a small supermaket where you can keep the beer and wine supplies topped up. The area is generally residential so you do feel as though you are 'living' in Lagos rather than just on holiday there.
The marina is a great place to people watch as are any of the pavement bars/cafes in the town.
All in all we loved Vilabranca and we will be returning there when we return to Lagos..................
We've stayed in many apartments....
......but this is the best.
Friendly, not expensive, superbly equipped apartment, pool and surrounds brilliant and the kids loved it.
Converts to the Algarve
Over the last fifteen years our family has holidayed in all the Mediterranean countries from Spain to Turkey and visited many of the islands too. We had been put off visiting the Algarve by reports of an area both full of time-share touts and but also full of golf courses. This summer we tried the area.
The Vilabranca apartments form the best accommodation I have have ever stayed in Europe. They are superbly cleaned and cared for by the very attentive staff. If something breaks or stops working it is sorted within minutes. The pool was excellent and there were plenty of sunbeds. The free hotel minibus to the local beach or the centre of town was extremely useful. The nearest supermarket is 50 metres from the main gate and stocked everything we needed for our two weeks of bliss.
The layout is well thought out and airy and the apartments are large.
Lagos was the best resort we found in the Algarve, a very wide choice of restaurants and bars alongside a range of shops. We came across nobody selling time share nor did we stumble across any golf courses by accident.
Lagos is a quite resort but this place makes up for it...
Myself and a 8 other gentlemen went to Portugal and stayed at the Vilabranca and what an enjoyable 2 weeks we had. We arrived in Portugal with 1 hour to spare to get from the airport to the apartments to see England v's France and after a mad dash we got their just as the national athems started. As we all walked in, instead of the expected look of horror of 9 blokes walking in dressed in our England tops we were greeted with warm welcome and before our dainty bums had even touched a seat the waiter, now reffered to as "Boss Man", was running around handing out beers, what a welcome. After the dissapointment of the result we then decided to get our luggage and check in to our rooms and what rooms they were, normally an apartment is just wide enough to swing a cat but these were actual apartments with seperate kitchen, 2 large bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (1 was en-suite) and lounge leading onto a balcony. The apartments were spotless beautifully decorated. The only complaint I could make is that the T.V. they gave you had dodgy reception on the British channels while the German ones were great, and seriously that is all I can fault it with and as you can tell I'm being very picky here.
Breakfast here was basic, the best being the Vilabranca toast which was ham and cheese on toast with a fried egg on top, but very nice. Lunch was good and the selection was varied from salads to hamburgers (you could actually have these for breakfast as well if you wished) and in the evening the hotel has it's own restaurant which has many varied dishes. All of these meals was served by Boss Man and his funny sidekick Milton.
On the night prior to leaving Boss Man had asked us to stay at the hotel that night as they wanted to show their appreciation for 9 blokes who in his words "Have been well behaved and respectful to us" although I get the feeling it may have had to do with the bar bill being over 150 euros everynight. We thought that they may give us a free meal or just a few drinks on the house but how wrong we were. We came down at 19.00 and they had closed the outside porch by the pool and waiting there was the actual owner of the apartments who had driven down to see us. He told us all about his life and how he got into the hotel game and was a very interesting man. Then he asked Boss Man to sort out the refreshments, out came 3 ice buckets full to the brim of Heineken, and 1 huge bottle of gin with tonic and as soon as we started to drink they would replenish the drinks. Then food started to arrive and again same thing happened when a platter was clear another came out. They treated us like kings for about 2 hours and needless to say we were not walking straight by the time we finished, they also presented us with a Portugese flag signed from The Owner, Boss Man and Milton saying that we were a credit to England for being fantastic supporters.
So as I say the atmosphere was excellent, the service impecable and it's people like these who make a good holiday a fantastic one.
If anyone from the Vilabranca reads this, hello from The Naughty Nine
I stayed here with my mother and sister last September. (2003) It really was the best holiday I have ever been on. The staff were vey friendly and the apartments were cleaned every day. The apartments were really big aswell which is something you would not expect for such a reasonable price. It had lounge chairs on the patio and the sitting room doors opened onto it along with the kitchen door. IT was very quiet when we went over so only a handful of people would use the pool in the mornings and afternoon. We ate out every day and the best food that we ate was in the hotel restaurant. It was really fabulous. The only thing that I would stress is that you do not use the phone in the hotel reception. IT COSTS AN ABSOLUTE FORTUNE.Other than that it was top class.
Excellent accomodation and location.
Reception Staff excellent, friendly, helpful and maid service good.
Fantastic and will come back.
