Szeged, Hungary r.laaksoThings really shut down in Europe on Sundays and Szeged was no exception. It's particularly bad in smaller towns when you're hungry and everything's closed...we felt like hobos, searching for food, and especially so when we stumbled across a Knorr van offering free soup-in-a-bun samples, and dove in!

Aside from closed shops though, there were certainly more pretty buildings, and even a lovely fountain to see!
Szeged, Hungary fisebI love flying over clouds. The people underneath are having darkness, maybe storms or snow and I'm up in eternal sun. Today over the clouds we had superhigh clouds above us. We were like million meters in the air, above the clouds but still had some more clouds just above. Then it all became clear. Hungary doesn't get much rain but gets hot sunny ...
Szeged, Hungary tierecke... It is the administrative centre of the North Baèka District. The city serves as the cultural and political centre for the Hungarians, Bunjevci, and Croats in Vojvodina. The largest percent of declared Yugoslavs in Vojvodina could be also found in Subotica.
Subotica, Serbia and Montenegro sall... space to let the baby walk around in. The playground equipment in Hungary is designed for fun and not safety, and I nearly broke my leg testing some sort of spinning mechanism out. Anyway, we're here for another day, and then we're going into Romania for a week or so, and then either North or South. If you would like to see most of the pictures, this link should work. I am having trouble understanding Hungarian. http://www.flickr.com/welcome/6090399/4 91658/ Tim
Szeged, Hungary cantelon-polley... had never taken foreign (non ex-Yugoslav) guests before and had a genuine interest and care in our lives and well being. For Kerry's birthday they prepared a huge meal of grilled chicken, sausage, cevapi, served with salad, soup, and a huge mound of pancakes for pudding. In comparison Kerry nearly burnt down the kitchen in Budva and Frank 'Igor' Gallagher started a slow patronising hand clap when she emerged with burnt food. After enduring a ...
Subotica, Serbia and Montenegro baileyandkerry... the Hungarian puszta to its north. In fact, that's what it was long considered, as Vojvodina - or Vajdasag, as the Hungarians call it - was, together with the Banat and Crisana regions of Romania, an outer part of Hungary's Great Plain. The post-World War I Treaty of Trianon saw these territories permanently severed from Hungary, but the common atmosphere remains very strong. It's not a particularly stunning area, with few trees about and most of land given over to agriculture. The ...
Subotica, Serbia and Montenegro xerius... look out of place. This may sound like I didn't like the place. Quite the opposite, I actually found it oddly appealing. I find it difficult not to like something that tries so hard and fails so spectacularly to look tasteful. The Art Nouveau Synagogue was a prime example of this, but even that was overshadowed by the rediculously flambouyant Raichle Palace. A monstrosity of a building, far too elaborately decorated and styled, I couldn't help but ...
