Salvador: where the street party never stops

... Century architecture you were well rewarded, turning the corner into a breathtaking ornate gold-leaf church. It was like no other you can imagine. So astounding was its beauty. It resembled a great church I visited in Rome, the church of Jesus run by the Jesuits. Heading back to my hostel in the rain I had a crepe in its lovely café,. In my room were two great Portuguese girls calls Danny and Llegia. After calling to Mark’s hostel we decided to paint our nails…then I met up ...

Salvador (Carnival!!!) - Day 41-51

... the crowds and punching people completely at random, then hiding in the crowd. The police were catching some of these maniacs and were being rightfully brutal with them! We continued the long walk home, and in slow motion a guy sprints out of the crowd and punches one of my Austrian friends hard in the side of the head and runs away like a coward. My friend was very shocked, so we grabbed him and kept moving. I was constantly looking over my shoulder to see if anyone was likely ...

... are dead. It is the preparation, the energy of getting ready that makes this place. Also it helps to have people who love you and who you love in return. Having flaviano and the guys from Cena Um really close is great. Also with Ujarma it is old friends meeting and sharing time. We sit and have coffee together after and talk a lot about life, the universe and everything. Its really nice. We are also talking about him coming on exchange to Australia which I think will be awesome. His ...

Salvador and Morro de Sao Paolo

... with the shade of palm trees to lie in and watch the waves.. it really was an unspoiled slice of paradise! Oh, and the reefs on the shore creates large "natural swimming pools" which are filled with water warmer than any shower we have had in South America.. in fact it was almost too hot to go in, a real phenomenom! In true Brazilian style we even tried our hand at bat and ball (which they play at a furious pace EVERYWHERE) and while we got the hang of it in the end ...

Heart of Darkness

... some dude sang pretty mellow ****. The next day I was the day I walked around, before having a very nice steak dinner. Tuesday nights, however, are a big event in the Pelo. The squares that were empty the night before now had stages, fruit bars, and other food and art vendors. Thousands of people come from all over and there are public performances of capoeira (a mix of dance and martial art that dates back to the times of slavery ...

... capitale bresilienne.

... here, the anti inflamatory medication is super strong and effective - like super, duper, duper strong! Yesterday for late lunch, early dinner, Jazzie and I shared some fine Caiperinhas at Sabor do Brazil (flavour of Brazil) and the waiter there was really very lovely. He was testing my portuguese, putting down the side dishes of the Moqueca (´scuse the spelling) and getting me to name them, making me laugh when I mispronounced or got it wrong... The ...

WEEK FORTY SIX, COPA, COCO, CAIPRINHA

... out of here and it is going to take two weeks to get the cards to Brazil, at least! It is a real shame that the majority of Brazilians are not very nice people and have no pride in themselves or their country cause it is a beautiful, fascinating and historically rich place! Hopefully, when I get out of these bigger cities and in to the more smaller local areas, Brazil and its people will convince me to stay and that it is worth my time getting to know the place. Here´s hoping!

A new mirror, 3 new friends, and more funny crap

... Makes sense. I find a City Bank, and word, I have no problem attaining funds. Ok, now the bus. I find a schedule at one of the bus stops that tells you which bus you need to take to go where. Sweet, why doesn´t Brazil have more of these handy lil helpers. I get on the correct bus, but I get on in the front of the bus and I get scolded as only those who have prepaid fare cards can enter through the front. Ok, fine, whatever, I´ll get on in the ...

SALVADOR DE POUCOS, APROVEITADOS MUITOS

... and the profits down south. Now they’re paying dearly.

But the countryside’s beautiful, in that vast empty sort of way, nothingness squared, field after field after town after town. When we finally pull into Salvador the next day I’m compost as usual. One feature of Brazilian cities and buses is that the terminals are usually on the outskirts of town. This may be good for traffic flow but bad ...
