... Sotmir and his sister Marcida were baptised first and his parents and sister Arketa in 2001 if I understand correctly. A great effort as the two girls are pioneering up in Pristina. They make me feel welcome and tell me not to be shy about eating. I will try. They don't speak much English so Sotmir works hard as translator bearing in mind my terrible Albanian.

I get directions and head down to the older part of Durres and the sea. Like all of Albania, ...

First day of touring

The walk around the city wall was open so we did that, the church bells were ringing, not in any sort of harmony but noisy enough to bring plenty of worshipers for morning ...

... in its day, definitely no longer the case.

There does not seem to be any such thing as a supermarket in Tirana, instead there are markets spread out around the city. Who needs to pop down to IGA when you can go down to the egg lady on the corner, and visit the olive man on the way back? The stall holders were all really friendly to us, actually understanding (and not laughing at) our limited Albanian and mime and throwing in a bit extra ...
