... a Minoan palace might have looked like . We visited the throne room , the women's quarters. After walking around the palace we stopped in Knossos for lunch. Tim and I picked the taverna nearest the bus and order Sardines and a Greek salad. The sardines were not the kind we find back home in a can. They were really big and had lots of bones . We were later joined by Diedre who we share our sale with and sampled her anchovies From Knossos we drove back into Chania and spent ...

... there are still lots around. It may-be different in Athens and the situation could change but so far it’s business as normal.

It’s actually getting too hot here. 35 degrees and it feels every bit of it. I need to move north although I believe it’s hot in most of Europe at the moment so may not get any relief going there. Anyway, I’m stuck in Rethymno resting. Believe me though – I will cope with ...

Kyle's 30th birthday turned out to be an incredible day. We started off with the hotel bringing him a cake and singing to him during breakfast. Then we decided to take an adventure to the island's most famous beach. We drove for an hour and a half south through the mountains, much of it on the edge of a huge gorge. The views were incredible and there were several quaint villages cascading down the slopes. We spotted several picturesque churches and an abundance of ...

... Great walk. Beautiful scenery. A formed path most of the way and all downhill so easy. Came out the bottom about 3pm (I was a slow walker as some people did it in 4-5 hours) at a town called Agia Roumeli. A swim at the beach (deserved), and then a boat ride to the next town on the coast that had a road to it (Sougia) Then it was the bus back to Chania arriving at 9pm. Pretty full day. Tired but ...

June 30

... cost a lot more. Made all the more perilous by the occasional tour bus with no qualms about careening into blind turns with six inches of clearance on either side.

Of course I got lost looking for Elafonisi. The signage in Greece is not the best. Sparse, sometimes hidden, and often in Greek. I missed my turn, turned around, and was finally about 6km away when I noticed my rear brake felt light. I slowed down to confirm. Yep, the rear brake was out. So ...
