Koh Tao Day 158 (25th Oct)

... of hours I walked onto the beach to meet Steve, Carol was there also, they were collaborating on songs, Steve playing the guitar (something he's modest about) and Carol singing. Carol went for a dip in the water (I swear she was born in the water, she loves it) and me and Steve collaborated on our Thailand song. After becoming increasingly more obscene and ridiculous we gave up after 20 mins, but it was a good laugh. Carol went off to get some sleep before her diving ...

Koh Tao, the best little island.

... These are just two of the restaurants on this road. And, you'll also find that there is a dramatic price drop here compared to restaurants just a couple hundred meters away on the main road.<br><br>Eating on the beach can be a wonderful experience on Koh Tao, or a completely mediocre one. Sairee beach is literally filled with restaurants. A few standouts for me are *Noori India restaurant, and it's beside the renowned Lotus Bar (same owner) so you can have exceptional food and then just ...

Diving with Bull Sharks in Koh Tao

... room and I took a nap while Gabe read a book. I slept hard for at least an hour, and then we got ready for our dive.<br><br>We took a small boat out to a larger two-story wood boat lined with tanks. It seemed like everyone already knew each other and once we had settled in we learned it was because they were all dive masters, there to see the sharks! We also learned that Gabe and I had been assigned one of the dive master&#8217;s and ironically his name was Heini ...

Remote and relaxing

... to get a photo.<br>The coral was all pretty much dead which was a shame - but we didn't venture out to Shark Island which was just off our resort and was meant to have good snorkelling.<br>I was sick for a few days with an upset stomach which didn't help ... so I spent a lot of time sleeping - while poor Cam had to head to the beach swimming alone :(<br><br>After 4 nights we then caught the catamaran over to Koh Samui (about 2 hours).<br>

Scuba Camp!

... forty yards from the beach. This is when we decided to call it "Scuba Camp" because our modest, wooden beach bungalow reminded us of a cabin that we'd stay in as a child at camp. It contained one queen size bed, a single fan, a cold water shower, and absolutely nothing else. <br><br>After lunch we began our first classroom session. We watched three videos, during which we had to answer questions located at the back of the respective chapters of our PADI open water dive book. After each ...

It Doesn't Rain Underwater

... for the sunny days and underwater on the day or two that it rained. In fact, the one day we went from getting pelted by blankets of rain on the boat to jumping in the water to the peacefulness just 30 feet below.<br><br>The island was pretty small but had some of the best thai and best pizza we've had on the trip.

... movie for the crowd. Once the movie is done playing... the videographer must then present the sales pitch and sell as many DVDs as possible. This would sometimes run as late as 7-7:30 PM (so...a 12 hour work day). As an intern...if I didn't sell, I didn't make any money. I knew that gaining experience at this point was almost as important (if not more important than) making money. It would still be disappointing though on no-sale days. I am ...

Koh Nang Yuan - paradise or prison?

... even extended to the shuttle ferry to take residents to Koh Tao (a very short trip, you could almost swim it if required) which they charged us £4 each for. However, that was not too bad in the end as, as well as getting me some new flip-flops at a fraction of the price in the island shop, we took in a very nice meal over there with better quality and at a considerably more reasonable price than they charge in the Nang Yuan restaurant. We also managed to smuggle back some ...

Breaking and Entering

I left the internet cafe fairly late last night at 11pm (after chatting online with babes all day-- sorry, I'm still not over Napoleon Dynamite) and returned to my guesthouse, to find the reception closed. Normally, I leave my key with the reception when I leave a place, and yesterday was the same. There was a note on the door with a phone number for me to call to get my key. Now, coming in late has not yet been a problem, but I should have ...

... beach and the sea is so so hot, it feels like a bath! There are loads of beach bars dotted along the beach where you can sit on comfy bean bags and watch the world go by! Our fist day here in Koh Tao coincided with the Songkran festival to celebrate Thai new year! One word ....CRAZY! Basically the whole island has a massive water fight that lasts all day! We got drenched from head to toe by the time we had ...
