Monday 5th Jan - we chose to have a day trip to this delightful little town in northen Italy hoping to find some snow to play in, and it was only about 2 hours by train. Aosta is a bilingual town in the Alps close to the entrance of the Mont Blanc tunnel, the major transport link of Italy to northern Europe. Feeling very positive about the rest of my travels today. My two big sisters are getting married in June and ...

... in a bad mood by the time we reached Refugio Bertone to take a break. We sat and sipped a coke in the beautiful setting and for the first time since the beginning of the hike we wondered again if we were up to finishing the whole hike.

Thankfully from Bertone to our next bed at Refugio Bonatti, the trail was gentle and forgiving. And it helped that some of the views were the ...

... breathtaking views we had seen on the entire hike.

Barbara was excited to finally be in Italy. But she never dreamed she would walk to Italy! The downhill to Refugio Elisabetta was pretty easy and through yet another gorgeous valley. We arrived mid-afternoon. The name of the place made me think of my mother a bit. Wish she was here.
