      ... luckily spoke relatively good English, so I was able to force her to force him to swap numbers with me with the hope of him teaching me to ski. The handsome Fabian is in fact a ski instructor and after ensuring that his number was real, I had embarrassed myself enough and we left.       ... was good, but odd: a great thick vegatable soup followed by meatballs on cabbage, instead of pasta (hey, we're in Italy - what's going on?!). Interesting company at dinner - a British guy and his Dutch wife, an Israeli guy travelling alone, and an American couple from Pennsylvania.

      I think I kept the whole dorm room up with my snoring that night (or so Barbara tells me).

      ... breathtaking views we had seen on the entire hike.

      Barbara was excited to finally be in Italy. But she never dreamed she would walk to Italy! The downhill to Refugio Elisabetta was pretty easy and through yet another gorgeous valley. We arrived mid-afternoon. The name of the place made me think of my mother a bit. Wish she was here.

      ... was decorated very creativly with farm tools, cheese making devices, cowbells, vintage pictures, old french cabinets and such.

      After dinner, the refuge hosts rolled out a player music box that she cranked, pulling a though a roll of stiff paper with holes in it. Suddenly we were listening to the Beatles "Yellow Submarine"! Everyone in the dinning room, no matter where they were from, knew it and we all began singing along.

      ... for a picnic and pictures at the pass. Our lunch was packed for us the night before: ham and cheese sandwich, apple, hard boiled egg, wedge of cheese and a candy bar.
