The Christmas Markets in Vienna open around the middle of November. They are all over the city, especially in the central First District, to which we are very close. The markets have lots of goodies, some lovely artisan pieces, some mass produced. Lots of Christmas themed decorations. ... which had chocolates and deserts - "Demel". We finally found it but it was packed with people and really hard to find a table so Carolyn and Russell just got take away cakes. Neil and I couldn't get out fast enough. People were fighting, pushing and shoving to be served and get a table. ... mention the expectation of the long wait for developing, and the diligent, hard work that this required - as we walked around snapping photos on our digital camera.

Dinner was another mediocre disappointment (cold pizza and cold mushroom goulash) - the only shame about this town being bad luck we had at restaurants! - and then to bed. Next day, Thursday, we travelled to Prague: a three hour bus journey into northern Bohemia.

The rest of the afternoon was spent further exploring other parts of cesky krumlov not yet seen and hiding out in a restraurant huddled under blankets looking at the rive flowing by to avoid the rain and cold. ... and all, a happy birthday song from all in the restaurant along with applause at the end....happy days!! Rather embarrassing really when everyone gets into it. The cake was made with cheese and plums, the cheese not overly sweet and the plums lovely and tart. I didn't manage to find out what the cake was called, all I can tell you is it was delicious!
