      ... who would sporadically rise to the surface and poke out their heads. We were a long way away but managed to get a couple of grainy pictures of them. Having descended to the most northerly protuberance of the cape, we gazed out to sea for a while, the waves crashing onto the rocks to our right and Byron Bay spread out to our left. The view was spectacular. We could have stayed there all day. Plenty of surfers were out in the bay, hugging the cape, and the beach was busy by ...

      ... a yoga class all in my first day. Might even do some chanting at some point...I've got a month so we'll see. Re: Things that will kill you No: 2,653...I saw my first snake! On a walk to the most easterly point of Australia, I spotted it just before I stepped on it, thank god! That walk is probably the most exciting thing to do in Byron that isn't in the sea, unless you count Nimbin, which is actually a tiny town around an hours drive ...

      ... much but away from the noise and hoons. Sent a few emails and had a long walk along the beach. We booked our trip back to NZ on New Years Day.

      So since then it has been to this beach or that beach, shopping, off to somewhere different, washing etc. Have had a few friends visit. Dean and Tina friends from Runaway Bay came for the day.       ... there but initially didn’t see any until we were walking back about to leave and someone told us they saw a whale behind us. Sure enough we saw a tail slipping under the water in the distance. The whales were quite far out so we couldn’t make out the detail very well, but there was quite a lot of them so every 30 seconds or so we’d catch a glimpse of one either blowing water in the air or splashing it’s tail down.

Since I forgot to pack my 4-inch stilettos, I decided I wouldn't enjoy Surfer's Paradise much and opted to head straight to Bryon Bay.
