    Some savvy readers might have noticed a bit of a lacuna in my last entry.

    Where, you might have wondered, are pictures of the torchlight procession? It was, after all, to be the highlight of the festivities --well, second after the shin-kicking competition.

    I have to make the painful admission that after being blasted by freezing winds up on Dover's Hill, we split and headed to the pub, hoping to catch the procession from the warmth of the Red Lion snug.

    After that it was hard to decide between the camels or the birds of prey, the Amazing Star ride playing rock hits from the 50s or the Punch and Judy show, the marching band or the Morris dancers.

    Off to the side was a tall suspicious-looking pole topped with a huge bale of straw stuck on top.

    Was it some sort of feeding apparatus for the camels? Or did it have a more sinister purpose? Definitely something to keep well clear of! ...

    Most kids can remember being forced into the study and dissection of Shakespeare plays. I remember in high school needing to go verse by verse in 5 classic plays - 4 tragedies and 1 comedy to find the hero, the villain, the victims or broken hearts and allowing the drama to unfold as I read each verse.
