... were 6 bunks that you pulled down from the wall, and climbed a ladder to get to. It was kind of funny because the old lady ended up snoaring the same sound as the tiger cubs made at Kwantu...ahh good memories! Leanne set our alarm for 5:30am because our train was due to arrive around 6. Luckily we had a nice conductor guy who made sure we were up and gave us 'breakfast' which was a disgusting raisin bread thing. But filled the void for ...
Interlaken, Swiss Alps, Switzerland kkb-myadventure... any time). Needless to say I wish I could bottle up that feelin of peace and keep it with me... I hope to come back to the Alps for Christmas, we'll see. however bein that Interlaken is kinda like Banff, it will probably be very busy and such during that time so, I just have to enjoy my short time now... The bus's in Interlaken stop runnin in between noon and 1pm, I guess its their lunch break! so we had to wait for the bus for about 45 ...
Interlaken, Swiss Alps, Switzerland crossin_oceans... on some prior ski trips to similar altitutdes. Perhaps it's due to the gradual acclimation via the trains, etc. However, back to the view... it was spectacular. If you enjoy mountains, it doesn't likely get much better than this. Our day was a fairly clear one as well.
When we arrived at Interlaken we then had to take an extended series of trains, lifts, buses, etc. to get to our eventual destination which was Schilthorn ...
... Went to the Mercado, a pizza standby, was ok with a pizza and french onion soup. Back to the room ready to venture up the mountains, the real reason I came to the Berner Overland. The 2009 Lauberhorn awaits. The Lauberhorn is the Swiss stop on the 2009 World cup ski tour. These are the skier that compete in the Olympics, Bode Miller USA included. Check out tomorrow as if the weather is like today, it will be spectacular. Daily ...
Gsttaad, Swiss Alps, Switzerland nedk... Besides, we wanted to hike. It had been snowing, and the closer we got to the station at the Eigergletcher (glacier) the deeper the snow got on the trail. Once we made it, we went to the restaurant for coffee and a delicious apple cake. This is the way all hiking should be--have a beer halfway through and then refreshments provided at the end. The station has a group of polar dogs from Greenland, brought to the Eigergletcher by the explorer Raoul Amundsen back in the ...
Wengen, Swiss Alps, Switzerland jrutledgeWe have arrived in Switzerland and as we quickly learned they are still on the Swiss franc and speak a language that is a combination of German, Italian and French. Oh ya we also realized really quickly that it is freakin COLD in Switzerland which for us just means our packs are lighter cuz we are wearing all our clothes. So a shout out to Rene, he told us about the caves in Switzerland and how they were a must! So we went to Tremleaccc...---something ...
Interlaken, Swiss Alps, Switzerland sobby... base camp and it was easy to see that this group would get along very easily. We then suited up in our wetsuits and laughed at how ridiculous we all looked in them. We then picked out helmets to protect our little brains from the rocks. After a short drive up to the canyon and a short walk up to the top part of the river. It was a fairly basic set of instructions which was just listen to what they tell you and you won't get hurt. We got ...
Interlaken, Switzerland beautiful_freak... cancelled! Interlaaken is the adventure sport capital of the world. Because of the rain we decided to leave and head to Italy to surprise Jane (Mrs date) and we stopped to buy thimble (to add to my ever growing collection!) and bought some Swiss Army knives too and they are engraved! very very cool!
Interlaaken, Switzerland jamesdate... flies taking huge bites out of our flesh, but the experience was very enjoyable. We returned late afternoon, as clouds were gathering, to Ian's for tea. We met Ian's friend/boss/co-cleaning devil Steve, a very mad individual in a group of mad individuals. Paul and I returned to our room, showered, and changed for dinner. We met Ian, Peter, and Jerry at a local pub (filled with Interlakeners), where we had rosti. Delicious. Fun time ... said good-bye to all.
