The Yellowstone highway is named for the Yellowhead Pass, the route chosen to cross the Canadian Rockies. The pass, and the highway are named after a fur trader and explorer named Pierre Bostonais. He had yellow streaks in his hair, and was nicknamed "TÍte Jaune" ...
Later this evening as we explored downtown Brandon. The feel of such small cities always interests me. We were surprised to see much of the parkland underwater, from the overflowing Assiniboine River. This latest flood happened in July and this is what it still looks like near the end of September.

A short time later I passed a semi accident but was not sure what had happened. And then, I was at the Manitboa border and soon there were more wheat fields than hay fields. I stayed at Barney's Motel in Brandon where I could park my bike under the overhang in case of rain or hail.
