We ended up really liking my grandparents’ hometown for our short visit, and it felt like home to us too.

Roman candles shoot fireballs with a firecracker in the center that blew up after shot. The firecrackers we set off individually and sometimes we emptied out the gunpowder onto a rock and lit it for a big flare. M-80s are sticks of dynamite that could blow up a hand. Last of all, the cones shot green colored sparks.

My mom has such nice memories of this place. It is really neat to be here, to meet relatives we wouldn't otherwise get to meet, and hearing family stories. It is a real highlight of the trip for me.

... 3). The whole country was off from Oct 1-8. We planned to stay in Qingtian until the holiday was over, to avoid all the crowds traveling at the same time. There was supposed to be 200 million people traveling over that week. We figured avoiding that would be a good idea!
