... to get worn so I adjusted it. Durango is a nice city, though not really a tourist destination. It has a busy 4 lane main avenue with good shopping that leads past some historic buildings to pretty zocalo centro, surrounded by many blocks of 1 and 2 story Spanish colonial architecture - worn, but actively in use for stores, restaurants, etc. But what was nice to me also was that it is a real city, with a city vibe. We did not seem to get as much ...
Durango, Northern Mexico, Mexico bocaleeWeek 6 Sept 6th - Los Mochis (Mexico) Arrived at a better time than expected in Los Mochis, 6am. Shared a taxi with 4 others from the ferry ($5 each) and was dropped off at my choice of budget hotel Los Arcos ($18 per night..nice). The room was well rough with live wires hanging out of sockets, live wires connected to the shower and sellotaped together (shocking!...sorry) and there was an ankle deep puddle nearly taking up the whole floor space. It took a Krypton Factor and Crystal ...
Durango, Mexico rollsThe first I knew about 2007 was a 5 A.M. alarm call. Still rubbing the sleep from my eyes I headed to the station. The train pulled out of Chihuahua shortly after seven o'clock bound for Los Mochis on the Pacific Coast. El Chepe - otherwise known as the Copper Canyon Railway - is often cited as one of the world's great train rides and is a big draw for foreign tourists. It's also one of the few links between the neighbouring states of Chihuahua and Sinaloa. The second ...
Durango, Mexico fintan... light is red, you must stop and an official will inspect your vehicle. Well traffic was just flying through the border gateway; we call it "gateway" as there were absolutely no booths, no stop signs, no traffic signals, and definitely nothing to indicate we would at any point need to stop the vehicle. Only after looking at the photos later, did we realize that there were in fact traffic signals....we were just too wound up and trying to find the Migracion office, to ...
Ensenada, Mexico mikeandgerThis is my first post on what I hope will become an interesting blog that will chronicle my life while I travel around the globe. This blog is intended for family and friends so I'll keep the introductions short, plus I'm sure there will be plenty of time for that later. I'm 24 and recently left a job as an engineer in the San Francisco Bay Area ...
Phoenix, Arizona, United States vkortaJune 28th - we debated about going back to San Miguel through Guardalajara as the road construction was bad and we were further north. We finally decided that we would go back to San Miguel via Durango. As it turned out this was probably not the best choice. You cannot even begin to imagine how twisty, turny these roads were. I was constantly turning the wheel one way then the other while either going up a steep ...
Durango, Northern Mexico, Mexico dondeMay 22- night before I leave. Still packing and repacking suitcase, trying to get everything to fit. Not much room for souvenirs, and this is my new "bigger" backpack/roller suitcase. Just put it on a scale- 55lbs for two months of travel. Sometime during this adventure I know that I am going to fall down with my backpack/suitcase on my back. Then I will be the one ...
San Diego, California, United States there_and_back... is a city that I would like to spend some time in.........with a guide. Again the traffic was nerve wrecking but not nearly as bad as Juarez. From there we headed southwest towards Hildalgo Del Parral. Unfortunately we had to jump off of the awesome toll highway and onto a secondary highway, number 24. This highway wasn´t too bad except it was fairly narrow with about 2 inch shoulders....literally. The beauty of this highway was that we got to see the real Mexico; people riding burros ...
Durango, Mexico shelbysimmondsDay 7: Salome, AZ to Wickenburg, AZ (54.5 miles; 3:46) Breakfast this morning consisted of steel cut oats with dried cranberries and pecans, a banana, and hot chocolate. I was ready early, and waited impatiently for Di to finish eating, packing, and pumping her tires. We hadn't gone more than four miles before we entered Wenden, another of the numerous tiny towns on the route. It was bitterly cold, and the Ingredients Coffee Bar ...
Wickenburg, Arizona, United States keddI can't get that song "Mexican Radio" out of my head, although the various "bar-grill-dance" places along Av Revolucion are doing their best to ply me with the best and worst of American and Mexican pop. It's been stuck in my head ever since we requested the bus tickets in Anaheim. We have to get out of here. Man, Tijuana. (I wish I was in Tijuana, eating barbecued iguana...) It's pretty much as I thought it would be. Well, the tourist-oriented part at least. I'm sure there's a ...
