... br> We kayaked along the coast, passing some Lycian ruins and tombs (dating back to 2000-1000 BC) and pulled into a small harbor. We had an incredible lunch at a small restaurant overlooking the harbor and then hiked to the top to an old fort and theatre where we had spectacular views of the coast. ... One of the Turkish tourists who was sitting near us on the upper deck sunbathing started trying to talk to my mum and I. When I say talking, he could not speak a word of English! But he seemed very friendly. He was using his smart phone to translate different questions to ask us. Unfortunately for him the translation app he was using wasn't hugely effective. ... Italy and we had a slight haze in the distance. As we passed Stromboli, we were treated to a belch of volcanic smoke and ash which mushroomed and then disappeared in to the sky. At the foot of the volcano is a small cluster of houses and we all wondered why people would settle at the base of an active volcano!?
