T and I traveled to Budapest with Angela and Mark in February 2004. We all were looking to get away but we could only go for four to five days...somehow we stumbled upon Budapest...I know crazy! Only four days and we choose to go all the way to Hungary! And if that wasn't enough, we left one cold environment only to go to another!! None of us …

... restaurants that served the soup my dad wanted to try. We selected Karpatia and enjoyed a local meal of grilled vegetables, balaszle (fish soup w/paprika) and paprika veal w/dumplings for myself.

Tonight we enjoyed a folkloric show of local music and dance. It was nice but it was more of a concerto with some dance numbers. Mom enjoyed it and after it was all set and done we were ready for bed. We have a very early start tomorrow for our trip to Prague.

A: Today was much more calmer then usual so it wasn't too bad. We went on the walking tour here and it was actually really nice. Aunt Linda introduced me to a few people on the tour--a group included three guys and have invited her to visit them in Brazil. They were really funny because our guide was telling a story about a horse statue that legend is if you run the horses' private parts you will have good luck on tests and getting a job. So all three ...

After allying themselves with Hitler to save their own skins (and, some say, their Jewish population), Hungary was overtaken by the Nazi-affiliated Arrow Cross in the waning days of World War II. Arrow Cross members did their best to exterminate Budapest's Jews. They killed Jews ...

    Fantastic - a little gem

    from anonymous

You don't go to the Victoria for its decor, nor do you choose it for it's luxury. You choose it because of it's stunning, jaw dropping views, and it's central location. Every room has a view over the Danube from Buda over to Pest, and within a few minutes walk you can be at the top of Castle Hill, over the river in Pest, or slightly further afield to Margaret Island.

    Nice Hotel

    from DarrenHenman

A very Nice Hotel, with excellent views of the Parliament Building and chain bridge.

The receptionist was the most helpful of any hotels I have stayed and and very knowledgable.

The only downside was the connecting doors between rooms, the people in the adjacent room had a tendancy to come in at 3.00am and switch on the tv at a very load level. If you are a light sleeper perhaps this isn't the hotel for you but otherwise excellent.

    Great stay at the Victoria

    from anonymous

We stayed at the Hotel Victoria for one week this past September (2004). The hotel and staff were both wonderful. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and clean. The staff very helpful a the breakfasts hearty. You cannot beat the location for all of the Budapest sites. The view from the rooms is incredible. I highly recommend this hotel.

    Great Hotel

Great hotel, lovely rooms with views, as much breakfast as you can eat. Friendy staff.

Would recommend the Belguim bar next door for mussles & chips and lots of good beers. Cafe Kor accross in Pest was fantastic and would highly recommend.

    Wonderful place!

    from 5lbbass

A beautifully furnished and comfortable small hotel on the river right below Castle Hill. Try for a room above the 3rd floor for spectacular views of both Parliament to your left and the Chain Bridge to your right.

Service was very pleasant and attentive. We were there for two nights in July 2004 and recommend it highly. One night we parked our car in the hotel's 3 car garage and the other night the desk clerk insisted we park in front of the hotel in sight of the desk. A Metro stop is 2 blocks away. Enjoyed a great dinner at Kacsa Vendeglo a few blocks from the hotel.

    Loved it!!!

After doing an extensive web search for a place to stay in Budapest in July 2004, we choose the Hotel Victoria. What a funtunate choice this turned out to be!!! It has a fantantic location on the Buda side and is only a short distance on the street cars to get over to the Pest side. As everyone else has mentioned, there is a wonderful view of the Danube and the Parliament Buildings. The personnel on the front desk were more than helpful and friendly and personable. There are two rooms on the top floor with balconies. We had one of these rooms and it was great. Try to get one if you like to sit on the balcony - they even have a nice table and 2 chairs! Almost forgot, the breakfasts are quite ample and delicious and served in a lovely sunny room. My advice, stay there, you will love it along with the beautiful city of Budapest.

    Great little hotel

    from anonymous

This hotel turned out to be a good deal for us. As advertised, all rooms have views of the Danube, including the Parliament and the Chain Bridge. Located on the Buda side of the river, it's an easy walk across the Chain Bridge to Pest. A plus for this hotel is that it is actually air-conditioned, which can be hard to find in Europe. There are only three rooms on each floor; rooms ending in the number 3 are larger than rooms ending in the number 2. The breakfast included with the room provided a decent array of breads, meats, cereals, along with eggs made to order. The hotel staff speaks good English and were quite helpful with arrangements we needed to make. We'd recommend this hotel to other Budapest visitors.

Good value for location and service

    from anonymous

The Hotel Victoria has a great location right on the Danube looking towards Parliament House and the Chain Bridge. It is very convenient for crossing the Bridge to Pest and for the funicular to the Castle. The rooms have great views and are spacious and comfortable. However if you are non-smoking ensure you request a non-smoking room. The staff are very helpful and speak excellent English.

    Spectacular Danube/Pest Views

    from GlobalGirl06

Hotel Victoria is a true gem on the Buda side of the Danube. The view of the river, Pest, Parliament, the Chain Bridge -- all spectatular! The hotel is about a 7 minute walk from the subway/train station and right on the tram line. Although there are busy roads between the Victoria and the Danube, there isn't much noise. My room was clean, quiet and had a balcony. Breakfast was tasty although service was a bit slow (not unusual in Budapest). The front desk staff was helpful with tourist hints and directions. Compared to the rates being charged by the big hotels in Budapest, this little gem is well worth a look (I pity those staying at the new Four Seasons -- Hotel Victoria has a much better view from all rooms!!)

    Perfect location, charming and memorable

    from jeanmarine

This hotel is a good value and we found it lovely. We loved being right on the water and the views across the Danube were wonderful. We like to walk and it was easy to go up the hill to the old town, and over those lovely bridges to the new town. I jog and it was great jogging along the road by the Danube. Our room had good sunlight and was comfortable and spacious. And this hotel is very close to a great beer hall and a very modern lovely expensive hotel with a nice bar - so we could enjoy that hotel's bar and be back at our hotel in 5 minutes. I don't want to oversell this hotel - it's modest, modern and small, acceptable but not amazing breakfast and (in fall 2001 which is when we went) had one of those old-fashioned wall blow dryers that looks like a vacuum cleaner hose - but we loved staying here! We didn't have a problem with any noise and I tend to be sensitive to that. We'd stay here again and look forward to the time when we can!
