We were invited out with some of the staff on Tuesday night to Laowi Town to a quiz night which was good fun. We then met Silvie, the CP at Munchner Biergarten, the German bar on Wednesday and the Italian restaurant Thursday evenings.

Ningbo is a lovely city, built on 5 rivers, so was a trading post and from the hotel room you can watch the barges go up and down the river. There are loads of fantastic bars and restaurants and it is now quite trendy.

Today my new employer phoned to let me know that the release letter had arrived but they could not use it as is was more like a warning for people not to employ me as I was tardy, boring and spoke funny. I never had any complaints or reprimands from the school, so you can imagine my surprise when the letter arrived. Not only was the trip to Yinchuan costly but it has also proved to be futile ...

... from Alex saying that she was given the weekend of October 25-27 free and that we should plan something cool. As au pairs, we are entitled to one free weekend every month…it's in our contract. The second I got her text, a huge feeling of dread came over me. How was I going to explain this to my family who clearly didn't think that I should really be going anywhere except to the chalkboard. After doing my best to explain, my host mother said no. I told her that ...

... something is always lost in translation. Luckily, the uncle visits often and he can speak in English. The eight-year-old boy has started to take a liking to me. Being a nanny for a five- year- old boy for a year and a half, I know a lot about how to act like a little boy. Even though I flew halfway around the world, the basis of their thought processes is completely the same. He pretends to have a gun, I pretend to have a sword, we fight, someone dies, the end. Do it all ...
