      ... days and seeing how much an apartment (condominium) cost here. San Francisco has seen a resurgence in housing prices since the GFC and you can expect to pay US$1M or more for a basic 2-br apartment on the peninsula!!

      Nice place to visit...couldn't afford to live here....

      ... to enter & exit - not to mention you couldn't sit up straight! Do not choose the top bunk if you suffer from claustrophobia! Despite this, we both slept reasonably well.

      The next morning I got up early - I wanted a good spot in the Observation Car for our trip through the Rockie Mountains! We slept all the way through the flat plains of Nebraska and pulled into Denver, Colorado about 6am. A lot of people got off and others got on - many people ...

      ... were taken while we rode, which was probably a really dumb idea but hey, it worked! The bridge from afar was nice. Halfway there it was beautiful. But when we got really close, the fog cleared, and it was immaculate. I've seen this bridge so many times in many movies, but this time I was actually going to be on it.. Wow!!!! Very surreal.

      ... the little delight to go into the shower and I heard a loud slap and “quit it!”… not from mum either. What an angel she was.

      Ha, enough of that. So after I packed up the car and checked out I took the coastal hike from the hostel down to the beach. It was a couple of miles long and a pretty easy walk.       Day 13 – The drive from Salinas to San Francisco was a treat through Wine County. Between the rolling hills, the vineyards and the farms, we didn’t tire of beauty of this part of the country. On the other hand, now writing almost a week after the fact, we’ve seen so much countryside the vistas have a tendency to blend in my mind. Thank goodness for electronically dated photos.
