Just when we thought Venice was the most beautiful place we would visit in Italy, Varenna may have beaten it into second place. Neither of us can get our heads round the fact that we are actually seeing what's around us. The apartment is amazing and the views from the balcony alone are worth the trip. Claire has also befriended a blind cat so we keep having to think of excuses to go and see the lady so Claire can rub the cat.

Today was a long, somewhat stressful day that ended really well. We bid adieu to Mark and Joy who were heading to Cinque Terre, checked out of our villa with Manuela and the 6 of us headed north west to Milan (about a 4 1/2 hr drive) in the big white barge. Lots and lots of traffic - fortunately most of it was going the other way. Dropped the grandparents and the girls at the airport Holiday Inn Express in ...

I had a special day booked it's very hard to get to these villages other than by train, the steep cliffs make it all but impossible to drive a car or bike to this area Just got an email from the bike hire company they were unsure of the Kim's I did in the week, they were a bit surprised that in 6 days I covered 1760 kms at .30/km it ads up! I now wait at la Spezia train station, just splashed the boots cost ...
