The Beach... AGAIN!!!! Arrrrrggh

... feet.

I don't think we got pics of it. We were both holding our breath.
Later when I checked Amira she had sweaty marks down her flank where she had leaned so hard against the corner going up. I don't know how she managed the down.

I've been searching all over the internet for a picture of that bridge. No luck so far.

Living for the moment

... trip in November? Now, I seem to be constantly living in the past. I read old blog entries from 2 yeas ago. I look at pictures from the past 4 years. I desperately attempt to reconnect with that person that I sat next to during my first class as a college freshman. I allow myself too much time to think about Concordia.

It never really occurred to me that, while I sometimes wish that I was still at school, friends at Concordia wish that they were in Veracruz. Across the ...

Tampico!

Tampico is much nicer than Monterrey! The family we are staying with is really cool. They are Catholic, so we've had a good chance to witness. We gave the husband a book called "More than Conquerers" so he could practice his english..... We went out for Tacos and Gringas - Muy Rico! We have an overnight bus tonight to Veracruz, then on to Cordoba - exactly what everyone says not to do!

Travel to Tampico...

It's beautiful here in Tampico. There's tons of night life and it's a lot safer than Monterrey! We boarded the bus from Monterrey at 10:00 AM this morning. We had the very front seats on the bus. The ride was not very comfortable. We just couldn't position ourselves in any way to make the ride more enjoyable. Not to mention, we hardly ate before we got on the bus and the bus doesn't make any stops ...

Veracruz Day 2

We did like staying in one place for 2 nights. We do really like Veracruz. The people look different from the rest of Mexico (there are some fair skinned, red-headed people here, desended from Europeans). We went to breakfast in the city, and then walked around the town square and church. We bought cream for all of Robert ...

Into Mexico witout a problem.

... crossing the country in order to go to Central America.... we would have to go to a different border crossing, wait 72 hours for a vehicle check and then travel all the way south in a caravan to the Guatemala border. Of coarse he had the name of a friend that could help us get through the process for a cost. We got our policy for 4 days and went and had breakfast thoroughly confused about the information that was given to us. Our option was to lie at the ...

Returning back to Tampico, Mexico

Since we were leaving that day around noon, I had several hours to explore the neighborhood.

Sail to Veracruz Velas a Veracruz

... with a brush, swimming up and down the boat lengthwise faster than the boat could sail. One night, probably the fifth night, I woke to go on shift. The boom was banging away topsides. A lose hallard was knocking against the mast. There was no cloud cover and the moon cast an eerie light over the deck. The boat was being rolled around a bit by shallow swells and still no wind. It was like a scene out one of those sailing disaster ...

We missed Acayucan

... figuring there were a lot of parties and announcements being made, but thats how you signal the lechero (milkman) to come and pour piping hot milk from a kettle into your glass. ¡Voila! Cafe con Leche done right. I got talking to our Mesero (waiter) and he was a very friendly guy. I got a personal tour of the kitchen which was huge. The restaurant takes up an entire city block and I estimate it seats about 300-350 people. Every table was full ...

Not-so-brilliant Mistake

Tampico DOES have some points of interest, notably nearby Huastec ruins, but I had neither the time nor knowledge nor inclination for them at the time, so I change buses and move on. It's hot as Hell, so I order up one of those delicious-looking aguas naturales in the big jars with big chunks of ice floating in them. Big mistake.
