... and on our way to Glacier National Park. This was a lovely reserve next to a lake and just off the highway. The Kids enjoyed riding their bikes and playing horseshoes. There were quite a few fishermen out on the lake in their boats trawling. In the morning we woke to a flat tyre on the caravan. Bit of a bugger seeing that we didn't have a spare or a ...

... was a deep-rutted rock-covered muddy track. It was amazing. We went up a short way and got out to look at the view.... Can you imagine looking out over a beautiful Montana pine tree-covered mountain view? Well that was what we were looking at. Very, very beautiful . we drove back down and met up with the others and then sadly we had to leave. It was lunch time by this time so we drove a short ...

The Wandering Moose Ranch, Libby, Montana

... also. We visited Kootenai Falls, Lake Kookanusa, Kalispell, Glacier Wilderness Resort, Eureka, Troy, Yaak Falls and most of Lincoln County, Montana. Shelby got to shoot all of Grandpas guns. She chopped down rhubarb and made some delicious rhubarb pies. And she and Maggie particularly enjoyed trout fishing in the ponds and river on Grandpa's ranch. Shelby cleaned her own fish and Maggie fried them up ...

day 10 (74 miles)

... haven. julie was riding with stephanie, and apparently she got a flat tire along that stretch. i guess she and steph were taking turns with one person working on the tire and the other on mosquito swatting duty. our quick pace came to an end just before we got to libby dam with about 7 miles to go for the day. at that point, the road starts a really steep climb (steeper than any of our big mountain climbing days in the cascades) that was like a ...

day 9 (83 miles)

... that required a long-stemmed tube, so we had bought the more ubiquitous type. after sand point, the road took us along lake pend oreille for many miles. we would alternatingly descend and ascend the hills on the side of the lake and occasionally find a great vantage point for a photo. we also saw one of the most enormous birds that i've ever seen. my dad the bird expert told me it was a golden eagle, but it might as well have been a ...

Father's Day!

Our drive from Saskatchewan early Sunday morning took us through the Canadian province of Alberta, where the prairie more closely resembled the American midwest. The biggest city we went through was Lethbridge, Alberta, where we had to drive around a huge canyon that was right in the middle of town. Then we finally saw the Canadian Rockies looming on the horizon and began our drive through them at Crows Nest Pass. Here we also saw the ...

MP 52 & back to Libby, MT

On Saturday, May 10, Don stopped at milepost 22 and the Stevensons drove ahead to Libby, Montana and to stay at the Rodeway Inn, formerly the Super 8. They spent Mother's Day in Libby, attending Libby Church of the Nazarene, pastored by Bob Havens. Loretta spoke by phone to most of her eight children (four of her own and four of Don's). On Monday, May 12, Don stopped at milepost 52. The Stevensons drove back to Libby for the night.

Gotta get a laptop

... We're moving westward now, and everyone has sort of settled down. Let's find the Observation Car! Of course it's dark, so not much to observe, but we want to get the feel of all the train. Oh, a snack bar on the bottom part, what do we want to eat? Hot dogs, sandwiches, we load a tray and go back up. Seats and tables fill the car. The windows dark of course, but TV's all ...

Across The Front Line Against Terror

... By Friday morning I was ready for the road again. Scenery, stunning though it undoubtedly was, was the last thing on my mind as I negotiated the continuous flow of logging trucks and other heavy traffic travelling west on narrow, winding Inter-Provincial 3. I was driven repeatedly onto the rough stony shoulder where I soon discovered that the new tyre I'd picked up wasn't as bullet proof as I'd hoped. Delayed by a spate of punctures it took the best part of the ...
