    ... made it to the muster point for all the people heading to the hotel. Baiyun is a HUGE airport, FYI. We had to wait about 20 minutes, then got on a shuttle and were on our way.     Woke up early on the Sunday for my mountain hike. In China, the name of every big hill seems to end in 'shan', which means mountain. When I ask my students what they are doing at the weekend, it's quite common for them to say 'I'm climbing a mountain'... Confused me at first! The hikes up these 'shan' hills are difficult, but they are definitely not mountains, something to do with the translation into English though means that they are called mountains. ...

    ... All of the cities in China are just getting bigger and bigger, and the rural places smaller and smaller. Saying that, in Beijing and also in Guangzhou, they have lots of very big and beautiful parks - from my travel research, this seems to be the case in most of the big cities in China.
