Impressions of Panama City

Panama City My first impression was of the hot humid climate. It is the sort of heat that melts an Alaskan in his sandals. I walk from my apartment to the nearby Veneto Hotel (or the cyber cafe) just to sit in the air conditioning. If you live anywhere north of the Canadian Border, the heat will take some getting used to. It is comfortable when your sitting in the shade and the wind is blowing. Learning Spanish I am taking two weeks of Spanish lessons through Spanish Panama school before I st...

Day 1 ~ Arriving in Panama

The limousine arrived at 2:15 AM for a 5:30 AM non-stop flight on Copa Airline to Panama City, Panama. A straightforward drive with little traffic arriving at JFK in plenty of time to check luggage, go through security and customs. Copa Airline was great and reasonably priced (round trip/non-stop JFK to PTY - $563.30) - on time and the flight was smooth and no nonsense. The food on the other hand was not so great. I will concede that maybe my meal was lacking because I checked the vegetarian ...

This hotel SUX

from dturtle
This hotel will rob you blind! Mysterious mini-bar charges totaling $76 when checking out after a 4 day stay. I never opened the mini-bar up even once!! This also happened to two other friends of mine who were staying at the hotel during the same weekHotel safe failed to open for me on two occassions. The lighting in the room was terrible, no hot water regardless of the time of day or night. You need a card key to access elevator and electricity in the room. Each day the key stopped working at least once! Don't be fooled by the glitz and glamor of the casino and lobby............this is no 5 star hotel. This was my first trip to Panama and I just didn't know any better! Alot of other choices......pick any place other than the Veneto! A panamanian attorney told me that he knows the owners and they do not care about customer service. Beware - do not stay @ this hotel!

Say good by to Vegas

Went to Panama City expecting a 3rd world mess. Wow was I suprised. A real city a safe place and great value. The Veneto is years ahead of the competition. I wish I know how great it was before my trip. Great Food, Great Fun overall great long weekend!!

Dishonesty galore..check your credit card statement

Although the Veneto may appear to be a nice hotel don't be fooled. The rooms are decent and the bathrooms are nice. However you are not guaranteed a hot shower or in some instances a shower as somedays there was no water at all. None of that compares however to the scam that is going in inside the hotel. Hotel employees regularly took food and beverages from the mini-bars and charged the room. Even worse, employees were creating fake laundry tickets and charging hundreds (yes HUNDREDS) of dollars to the guests room. The hotel also puts authorization holds on your credit card. In my case they "mistakenly" did so 9 times. It took threatening legal action to get the matter cleared up. It may sound like complete incompetence but it's not. It is very organized fraud and I believe there are employees at all levels involved. I do not recommend staying at the Veneto. If you must, do not pay with a credit card and by all means pay attention to your bill.

A super hotel in a great location

from A TripAdvisor Member
I have stayed at the Veneto Hotel and Casino on three different occassions, in Feb, March and again in April, each stay being longer than the previous. The beds and linen are fabulous. Safes in every room are a plus. The housekeeping department is great and alway accommodating. The only problem was the black out drapes on each occassion did not close properly, letting in light in the morning.

The soup in the casino bar is excellent and a great late snack. The casino is small a quaint and the poker room and VIP Rooms are very nice with poker games every night until the wee hours of the morning.

Great restaurants nearby and shopping is a stones throw awaw. Great location with two other casinos with yards of the front door.

The best hotel in Panama

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed at the hotel for 4 nights. The hotel is brand new, with the greatest facilities: great gym & spa, five great restaurants, Vegas style amazing casino, and excellent business facilities.

I am travelling more than 50% of the time and considering their low rates - this is by far the best hotel I visited!

My room was very spacious, with luxurious marbel bathroom, great bed with spoiling bed linens, great minibar, and pleasant climate control.

Main Advantage: value for money is outstanding.

Disadvantages: Sushi bar is too small to contain the line of people wanting to eat there (it is one of the best).

Hotel is okay, but check your bill

I stayed at the Veneto in February of this year. The hotel has great roof-top pool and lobby. The beds are very comfortable but the rooms could use some sprucing up as far as maintenance.

One of the best things about the Veneto is their staff. They speak great English and are very efficent and friendly.

One warnig--check your bill before you leave. I had charges that I didn't make on my bill and had to have them taken off.

Overall, the place is good.

Excellent Hotel -- but a few tiny nuisances

from hoppingaround
My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights (April 3-6, 2006). It is a really nice hotel. Rooms are very clean, spacious, and comfortable. The pool is fantastic and the hotel has excellent workout facilities and a beautiful spa. Breakfast was included in our rate ($100USD/night + 10% tax). Breakfast was a huge buffet - very good.

I do not recommend the sushi bar (Fontana) in the hotel lobby. We had sushi there one afternoon and my husband ordered the maki combo (the menu stated that it came with soup and salad). O ur sushi was served and my husband asked where the salad and soup was. The waitress first said that she would check and came back to say that the sushi chef indicated that there wasn't enough soup and he didn't have any. She then asked if he would like some soup from the other restaurant so he said yes. Then she came back a bit later and said that they did have some miso soup left over -- did he want some? So he said ok. Then he asked about the salad and the sushi chef pointed to the garnish on my sushi plate and said that that was his salad! He was so rude! It was completely ridiculous - so then the waitress asked if he would like a salad from the other restaurant and the sushi chef winds up giving him a plateful of my garnish (seaweed). The sushi was excellent but the seaweed was disgusting. We wrote a note to the management on the bill, stating that if you don't have something on the menu, advise the customer before they order it. It was really lousy service.

Upon checkout, our rate was wrong and we had to go through the process of getting that corrected with the manager. They were having "technical diffculties".

I think the food in the hotel is overpriced. There are many excellent restaurants in Panama -- eat outside the hotel for a lot cheaper. Cafe Pomodoro across the street serves wonderful Italian food (so does the Wine Bar).

I would stay at this hotel again but as we did, find lots of eating options outside the hotel.

Great New Hotel!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Well, I was back in Panama City for a week. I decided this time to try the new Veneto Hotel and Casino. I previously have stayed at the Radisson Decapolis and the Bristol.

I had an excellent time while staying at this hotel/casino. I chose it, because it is new and because of the reasonable rate being offered at the time. Also, their web site, ---venetocasino---, made the hotel look great.

I was not disappointed. Service was very good. The hotel and rooms were kept very clean. The rooms were excellent with better than typical hotel bedding. The rooms were not quite as nice as the Bristol, but nicer than the Radisson Decapolis. I would say, this hotel blends many of the strengths of both of those hotels with few of their weaknesses. Another nice thing was that free wireless Internet, gym access, and full breakfast, was included in the already reasonable rate.

I would stay here again without question.

STRENGTHS: Reasonable rate, many extras included in rate, new, clean, very good service, great pool area and bars, decent walkable surrounding area, and excellent SPA.

MINOR NEGATIVES: Could use more strength training equipment in their gym. Hotel restaurants expensive for Panama. Could use iron in the hotel room.

Superb

Wonderful, beautiful, extremely friendly & courteous are just a few words that I use to describe this hotel. The casino and bar are fun places to hang out and meet people. If you like to relax and get a massage, I recommend going to the spa in the hotel. It's simply amazing. The breakfast buffet is o.k. but the sushi restaurant is worth every penny.

They have wonderful specials for staying at the hotel and it's located in the downtown area.

I will defiitely stay here on my next trip to panama.

We stayed at the Veneto Hotel and Casino for a week and thought it was very nice and clean. We enjoyed ourselves and for the price we felt it was an excellent hotel. Hotel had internet access and a great spa.Hotel was close to lots of shopping and good restaurnts. Would recomend to anyone wanting a great new hotel at a reasonable price. Rooms were very spacious and all went well. Casino was not huge but enjoyed having one in the hotel.
