Headed South into Hungary, on the back roads, the rain has stopped, the roads are good and with very little traffic I've had a fun day. Bimbled along at around 60 mph just taking in the sites. Temperature in the high 20's so all good. Managed to get 390 miles out of a tank so I must be taking is slow!!

The journey from Esztergom to Eger begun with a detour to a medieval citadel overlooking the small village of Visegrad. Hungarian Kings used this citadel as their residence from time to time over the years and is considered culturally significant, however it is best summed up as appearing identical to a set taken straight out of a renaissance fair, with knight costumes, archery and horse riding. Driving to Eger proved to be my undoing, as complacency got the best of ...

Eger and Salt Hill

Our day started with a tour through the neighbouring town of Eger. There were so many charming twisty little streets full of nicely restored historical buildings, a medieval castle on the hilltop and lots of restaurants, cafés and souvenir shops. The castle was were, against all odds, the Egerites famously and successfully defended the town from the invading Turks in 1552. In the main town square, there was a lot of work being done on the cobblestones so it was a bit tough ...
