        ... was old, with wooden floorboards and fans on the ceiling. We only picked up the bus conductor part way through the journey, and she then sold tickets to everyone on board. Despite being a big bus, it didn't ever fill up. Outside, on both sides of the road, for most of the journey (indeed for most our journeys since we arrived in southern Thailand) were plantations of oil palm and rubber. Satun itself ...

        ... popular with tourists, the most recent bombing occurred in 2012. The next minibus (not as cramped), took us two hours west to a pier in a place called 'Pak Bara'. From here we boarded a speedboat to 'Ko Lipe' (pronounced lee-pay). The speedboat took an hour to get there, we disembarked on to a big pontoon about five hundred metres from shore.         Thursday 13th - Friday 14th The 25hour journey from Ko Tao to Ko Lipe was pretty darn long, consisting of a taxi, ferry, bus, overnight train, minivan and speedboat. Oh and the added surprise of a 140 baht longtail after our speedboat dropped us at a pontoon 100m from the beach (classic South East Asia for you).
