... We board the ferry to get over to Alcatraz island. It was a great tour..you have an audio and walk around the prison cells and grounds. We also got to see the hospital. Audio is great ..has officers and prisoners talking and sound affects of what might have been happening at the time...including riots and the great escape. It would have been an awful experience for those in prison. Most of the guards and their families lived on the island...kids went to school by ferry ...
Another stunning day. Had breakfast at Sears Fine Foods which is a old school dining experience that people queue up in the streets for. We were early enough to get seated immediately and had pancakes etc Pretty cool old place. Caught the BART down to the ferry building where there are some amazing food shops. Outside they had a farmers market which we wandered around really beautiful produce. We walked down to Pier 27 where Liz told us we should watch the yacht race. Really good set up ...
... to Alaska! After breakfast at IHOP (I had enjoyed the oldies music they played!), we checked out of the hotel, stowed our luggage and walked down to Pier 39 to visit the Aquarium of the Bay. We took a self-guided tour of the Aquarium, with the Otter Up a Tree exhibit being a real highlight!
