Good location away from the throngs with a nice pool to boot

The Van Loi is well located not much more than a five minute walk to the old town. We stayed here on an Intrepid food tour of Vietnam. Big rooms - our room had a queen bed and a single - with half facing out the back and the other facing the pool area. The staff a reception were all very friendly. A good breakfast was served up on the top floor of the hotel where there was a view across the surrounding area. We both had a massage at the 'spa' beside the pool and it was a pretty good massage, even if it was more expensive than those on offer at the many places along the street in to town. We have no problem recommending the Van Loi Hotel

We took the superior room and the room was great. A bit expensive compared to other Hotel in Hoi An. It takes 5 minutes by foot to reach the center of Hoi An and 15 minutes by bicycles to reach the beach. The staff is charming and helpful and the breakfast very yummy!

It's about 7:30 am and I'm typing from my top bunk on the Reunification Express, heading to Danang (where we will transfer to Hoi An. Hoi An doesn't have a railway station). We are on the somewhat optimistically named "sleeper" train. Each very small cubicle has four narrow beds, two up and two down as you'll see from the photos. The beds come with …

On the journey from Hue to Hoi An we stopped on the top of the mountain where there had been fighting in the Vietnam War to try and prevent passage over the mountains. We also had a stop in a village where they made the incense sticks, sawdust, glue and water are mixed together into a thick paste (this is the bit that burns) and rolled around a …

After they dry, they put them throuugh a machine that chops them into noodles. The method has been in their family for hundreds of years and they haven't changed how they make them at all.
